Hello, everyone!

Welcome to my first article. Well, let me introduce myself first. My name is Amelia Efryanti. Currently, I am a student at the University. on this occasion, I want to share a food recipe that might be a reference for those of you who need it. Before we start, do you know about cakes?

In Indonesia, a cake is one of the foods that have a lot of interest. As in certain events, we often find various kinds of cakes. Of course, everyone has their favorite cakes. As in my family, there is one cake that is often made by my mother. Its name is “Black Sticky Rice Cakes” or we often call it “Bolu Ketan Hitam”. This type of cake is different from steamed cakes in general. As its name, this cake is made from black sticky rice flour. And now, I will tell you how to make this unique cake.

First, you have to prepare all the ingredients. You can buy them at the traditional market or supermarket. To make this cake, you will need some of the ingredients, such as:

  • 8 eggs, make sure the eggs are at room temperature. Don’t put them in the fridge before you make this cake so that the cake doesn’t break.
  • 1 cup or 250 grams sugar.
  • ½ tablespoon vanilla extract. You can replace it with vanilla powder.
  • 1 tablespoon cake emulsifier. It will make the cake feels soft and fluffy.
  • 1 cup or 200 ml cooking oil.
  • 1 cup sweetened condensed milk.
  • 250 grams black sticky rice flour. You can use the flour from any brand in the market or you can grind pure black sticky rice.

After preparing all the ingredients, now, we are going to the steps. I also will give some tips that my mother did to make the cake has great taste. To make this cake, there are several steps you have to do, such as:

  • Mix eggs, sugar, vanilla extract, and cake emulsifier with a mixer for about 20 minutes. Why we must use a mixer? The use of a mixer will make all the ingredients mixed faster than stirring it with the rubber spoon manually.
  • Add black sticky rice flour little by little until the mixture turns black while continuing to stir with the mixer and pour the sweetened condensed milk. Remember, you have to pour the flour slowly so that the flour doesn’t scatter when mixed.
  • After the mixture turns black, pour the cooking oil until the mixture is well blended. Cooking oil must be added last so that the cake doesn’t break.
  • Pour the mixture that has been mixed evenly into a large metal pan that has been smeared with butter on all sides then put it in the steamer for 30 minutes until the mixture is cooked and fluffy. You have to coat the metal pan with butter so that the cake doesn’t sticks to the pan.
  • After cooked, let the cake cool. Spread butter over the cake and add the desired toppings, such as cheese, almonds, strawberries, and others. You must remember that the cake should be at room temperature when you top it up so that the butter doesn’t melt on it and change the taste of the cake.
  • After it, the cake is ready to serve.
