The history of cockfighting in the city of kudus according to legend began before the spread of Islam in kudus and during the spread of Islam in kudus in the story of the son of sunan kudus was assigned by his father to spread the teachings of Islam in the area.
Kedu Sala Tiga.

Then with the characteristics of the Kedu people who were very fond of cockfighting, Sunan Kudus's son approached them with a socio-cultural approach by participating in the cockfight, in the match Sunan Kudus's son's chicken became the champion chicken,
Sunan Kedu, who was a saint, then challenged Sunan Kudus's son to a match (cockfighting), betting the clothes they were wearing, finally Sunan Kudus's son lost and took his clothes, and then Sunan Kudus's son returned home with a shy heart, then Sunan Kudus's son reported to his father with a little emotion, Sunan Kudus said "kudus dodol rak kulaan" which means kudus sells but does not buy, then the son of Sunan Kudus was told to return to bet his chicken with Sunan Kedu, in the hope of taking back his clothes that had been bet, finally the son of Sunan Kudus managed to win the match and the clothes he had bet on were successfully taken back,
Realizing his defeat Sunan Kedu realized that the one who defeated him was not the son of an ordinary person, surely this was the son of a Wali, a jaduk or a great person, finally Sunan Kedu searched for information, and finally he managed to get the identity of the child who was none other than the son of Sunan Kudus.

Because of the defeat Sunan Kedu was even more curious and wanted to try the magic of Sunan Kudus, so Sunan Kedu visited the city of Kudus by riding a tampah made of bamboo with the intention of showing off his magic to Sunan Kudus. A sakti only has the science of lightening the body in such a way that only by throwing a tampah into the air and then jumping on it can he fly as he wishes.

One day Ki Ageng Kedu, curious about Sunan Kudus's magic, wanted to try his hand at a battle of wits. As usual, he took a tampah and flew to the Kudus area. People who saw him were amazed and astonished that Ki Ageng Kedu passed so quickly over people's houses. When he was in the Kudus area he did not immediately get down from his tampah, but laughed loudly around the city of Kudus. Sunan Kudus's disciples were curious to see his arrogance, but at that time Sunan Kudus had not yet left the Mosque, he was still reciting dhikr after prayer. He was also not surprised when he came out of the mosque to see Ki Ageng Kedu shouting his name.

"Hey Sunan Kudus, come out, face me Ki Ageng Kedu who wants to challenge you to a battle of wits!"
Suddenly Sunan Kudus pointed his hand at Ki Ageng Kedu and said, "I am here Ki Ageng Kedu!"
Instantly Ki Ageng Kedu's blood ran cold. The tampah he was driving suddenly swayed here and there. Uncontrollably, his light body suddenly turned heavy and was immediately sucked in by the earth's pulling force, even as it was thrown by a supernatural force that was invisible to the eye. Ki Ageng Kedu's body was thrown to the muddy ground of the sewer area that is now the Jember market and is named after the village of Jember, which is muddy in the Jember language.
'becek' in Javanese is called Jember, until now the place where Ki Ageng Kedu fell is called Jember.
