Garis Juang Holds Political Discussion to Raise Young Voters Awareness Ahead of Regional Election

The Garis Juang Organization held a political education discussion aimed at increasing political understanding and awareness among students and young voters. The activity took place at Joglo Bambu Sumber, Banjarsari, Surakarta City, Central Java. This discussion was organized ahead of the Regional Head Election (Pilkada) momentum on Wednesday, November 27, 2024. The event received positive responses from various groups, especially from students.

"We hope this discussion can broaden people's insights, especially students and young people, to be more aware and understand politics. Because after all, all aspects of our lives are related to politics," said Putra (Coordinator of Relations and Networks of Garis Juang).

In implementing this event, the organizers applied a special strategy by presenting speakers who are competent and relevant to the chosen theme. This becomes important considering that most participants are students who need intellectual and comprehensive material delivery.

"We deliberately organized this activity ahead of the Regional Elections so it could become a reference for young voters in determining their choices later. Good political understanding will result in wiser political decisions," he explained.

 

The Importance of Political Awareness

The organizers emphasized that basic political understanding is very important as it can become a provision for being more aware of the current political situation. When political understanding is still minimal, this can make someone become apathetic towards politics and future policies.

"Politics encompasses all aspects of life. When we understand the basics, at least we have the provisions to better understand the conditions around us. This becomes very crucial, especially for the younger generation as the nation's successors," he emphasized.

 

Positive Response from Participants

Participants attending the event, mostly students, showed high enthusiasm during the discussion. The participants were actively involved in question-and-answer sessions and interactive discussions with the speakers.

"This discussion is very beneficial for us students. We now better understand how politics affects daily life and the importance of active participation in the democratic process," said one participant, Rozan, a 5th-semester student.

 

Impact and Expectations

This activity is expected to have a positive impact on increasing smart political participation among young voters, especially facing the upcoming Regional Elections. With this political discussion, the organizers hope that good political understanding can produce smart voters, and young people are expected to be more critical in addressing various issues and policies.

"When young people understand politics well, they will be more critical in addressing various issues and policies. This is very important for the future of our democracy," added the Garis Juang Coordinator.

Seeing positive responses from various parties, Garis Juang plans to organize similar activities continuously. They will also develop more interactive activity formats and reach more young people.

"Going forward, we will continue to develop similar programs with more diverse formats. The goal remains the same, which is to increase awareness and political participation of the younger generation," concluded the Garis Juang Coordinator.
