Abasa is one of surahs in Al Qur'an juz 30. It contains 42 ayats and was given to our prophet Nabi Muhammad when he was in Mecca.

It was given to our prophet when he was ignoring a blind man, Abdullah Bin Ummi Maktum who was asking for Islamic lesson.

Surah Abasa 1 and 2

  • "He frowned and turned away"
  • "Because a blind man came to him"

At that time, our prophet was giving some explanations to the leaders of Quraisy. Our prophet tought that they were more important than a blind man.

But then Allah told our prophet nicely. He said that the blind man might be trying to purify himself from sins or he might want to get some lessons. Althought he was a blind man, It was better than the Quraisy who were rich, wealthy, but difficult to accept Islam.

Surah Abasa 3 and 4

  • "But do you know, maybe he wanted to purify himself"
  • "Or he wanted to get lesson that gave him benefit"

Realizing that, our prophet then was turning, facing, and smiling to him, thrying to fix his mistake and teaching him Islam.

What can we learn from this?

  • When teaching, sometimes, we need to prioritize people who are more interested in learning, people who realy need our our lessons, or people who come from distant places.
  • Learning and teaching activity must be in friendly situation so the lesson will be easily accepted.
  • Teachers have to smile and act friendly to their students, so that they will not feel afraid. Afraid will give bad effets to them.
  • Students must respect the teachers.
  • Learning and teaching must change people into better people.

Wallahu a'lam
