Samarinda Green Exotic Costume Carnaval 2011

Every year, the city of Samarinda celeberates its anniversary with many exciting events. One of the events is the Samarinda Exotic Costume Carnaval. In 2011 the main theme of this carnaval is Green. In the cloudy and rainy morning of January 23, 2011, the carnaval starts. The carnaval is centered in front of the Segiri Sports Hall, passing several main streets in downtown Samarinda.

Samarinda is the capital city of East Kalimantan Province. This city is a boom town, economically as well as culturally. Thanks to the abundant natural resources, ranging from forest logs in the 70-s to coal in the 21th century. This carnaval marks the rise of awareness of the city about the green conservation. As we all know, East Kalimantan is struggling to keep its environment as the mining and natural resources extractions growing up.
