  1. Experts opinion on social issues

  • Soerjono soekamto

This sociology professor defines social issues as miscorrelation between elements of culture or society that if left unchecked can jeopardize social interaction. Furthermore, this Indonesian university grandmaster (UI) divides social problems into four types:

  1. Economic factors: poverty, plunder, poor nutrition, and unemployment.

  2. Psychological factors: depression, stress, and suicide.

  3. Biological factors: covid19 plague and other infectious diseases.

  4. Cultural factors: promiscuity, rioting, and delinquency.

Soerjono also expressed that social problems are a problem within society. The emerging issue has a close relationship with values or norms that apply among people. The problem is social, so a thorough social approach is necessary.

  • Pincus and minahan

Allen pincus and Anne minahan on the grameshe.com mentions that social problems are social conditions that don't measure up to people's values after being evaluated by society. In society, social issues can be recognized if something is unpleasant or uncomfortable in their judgment.

  • Earl rubington and Martin s. weinberg

In their social studies, both sociologists interpreted social problems as conditions within a society that did not measure up to the values held by the community. Such inconsistencies are not desirable and there is no need for a common agreement in the community to transform those conditions into conducive to adopted values. In general, social problems are a misalignment between expectations (of upholding values) and reality.

Such uncertainty creates confusion in the heart and in the presence of uncertainty because it seems distorted from social features and characteristics. Called a social problem because of the anxiety felt by many, not just one or two individuals. If left unchecked, the problem would be dangerous and would have to be solved through public agreement to make the condition conducive again. Most social problems are due to negative effects on the progress of civilization, damaging generations, and causing loss

  1. What is social problem?

A social issue is a problem that affects many people within a society. It is a group of common problems in present-day society and ones that many people strive to solve. It is often the consequence of factors extending beyond an individual's control. Social issues are the source of conflicting opinions on the grounds of what is perceived as morally correct or incorrect personal life or interpersonal social life decisions. Social issues are distinguished from economic issues; however, some issues (such as immigration) have both social and economic aspects. Some issues do not fall into either category, such as warfare.

There can be disagreements about what social issues are worth solving, or which should take precedence. Different individuals and different societies have different perceptions. In Rights of Man and Common Sense, Thomas Paine addresses the individual's duty to "allow the same rights to others as we allow ourselves." The failure to do so causes the creation of a social issue.

There are a variety of methods people use to combat social issues. Some people vote for leaders in a democracy to advance their ideals. Outside the political process, people donate or share their time, money, energy, or other resources. This often takes the form of volunteering. Nonprofit organizations are often formed for the sole purpose of solving a social issue. Community organizing involves gathering people together for a common purpose.

A distinct but related meaning of the term "social issue" (used particularly in the United States) refers to topics of national political interest, over which the public is deeply divided and which are the subject of intense partisan advocacy, debate, and voting. In this case "social issue" does not necessarily refer to an ill to be solved, but rather a topic to be discussed.

Personal issues are those that individuals deal with themselves and within a small range of their peers and relationships. On the other hand, social issues involve values cherished by widespread society. For example, a high unemployment rate that affects millions of people is a social issue.

  1. Why social problem exist?

The factors underlying social problems are influenced by economic, cultural, biological, and psychological factors. To quote the sociology module, here are some of these factors.

  • Economic factors

Economic factors are among the biggest causes of social problems, as individuals or groups need to care for their needs. Governments need to address economic inequality such as distribution and production that affect public welfare. Examples of the economic factor of poverty, crime, social inequality, and unemployment.

  • Cultural factors

Cultural differences can trigger breaches of social norms, values and interests. Different cultures may cause new problems in society. Culture can develop and play a part in masayrakat's life. A simple example of the cultural factor: mutual respect for others and environmental sensitivity. Whereas the negative of such cultural factors are indifferent to the surroundings. Examples of cultural factors include delinquency, tribal conflict, premature marriage, environmental exploitation, divorce, discrimination, and much more.

  • Biological factors

Biological factors are due to public health conditions that cause social problems. There are three infectious disease groups, high death rates, infectious diseases that cause death, and infectious diseases that cause material and health damage. Examples of such biological factors as undernourishment in infants, the covid-19 virus, toxic food, and the emergence of new incurable diseases.

  • Psychological factors

This factor is affected by the mindset of individuals and societies. Psychological links with a person's understanding and viewpoint of a religious cult oran understanding that is incompatible with ideology.

The psychological factor can be handled with a wise approach. Examples of such psychological factors as biased religious movements, anti-government movements, and sexual deviants. Other psychological factors include social environment, an inattentive parent, and different religious convictions.

  1. Classification of social symptoms

  • The social symptoms of an economic problem

The first social symptom is a social symptom that results from economic problems. The social symptoms of economic problems can be seen when many who are unable to meet their needs because of economic problems. Examples of the social symptoms of economic problems include poverty and unemployment.

  • Social symptoms of political problems

Then there are the social symptoms of political problems. These social symptoms appear in political circles and typically involve political officials in certain areas. An example of the social symptoms of a political problem is the practice of corruption.

  • The social symptoms of cultural problems

Finally, there are the social symptoms of the cultural problem. These social symptoms are most common in society because of the considerable scope of the problem. Examples of the social symptoms that result from cultural problems include crime or crime in society, divorce, juvenile delinquency, and racial and religious conflicts.

  1. Effects of social problems

Any problem that occurs over a long, sustained, and sustained period of time will have an impact on both the individual and the social group. Below is a negative impact on social issues:

  • Poverty

Poverty can be both a cause and an impact on social problems. Continuous poverty can be contagious like a plague. Poverty is on the rise as stratification in society creates divisions of social and gap class. This leads to an awkward interaction between one who is in the economy class and one whose economy is on the bottom or the top.

Poverty can move one to associate with others to be safe from the heartache and shame of their undeserved social judgment. In general, because of these harsh conditions of poverty, they gather to form settlements in the squalid, manicured suburbs. The result is an environmental imbalance.

  • Crime

Social issues that are not solved by governments and communities will lead to crime or crime. While this raises concerns, it certainly makes for a loss of comfort and security. Crime is the result of social or economic changes, population problems, economic hardship, weak and vassal rule (corruption, collusion, and nepotism), mental health, and faulty parenting. Crime can be learned through any medium, including interactions with those nearby. Social issues that beget evil can breed other crimes. The possibility of flourishing crime organizations can inspire others to commit similar crimes.

  • Family organization

Social problems can cause the disunity of the family as the smallest unit in the community. The disunity arises because members within the family are unable to meet the minimum of integrity as a family. In sociology, an organized family may be incomplete in the absence of marriage, divorce, internal crises, family crises, and flaws in the family.

Basically, the family organization results from inability or tardiness to adjust to new social and economic circumstances. Unprepared for the transition period isa major cause for most family organizational cases.

  • The problems of youth

The impact of social problems at this point is often the result of two fundamental causes: the desire to fight and apathy. Resistance is generally coupled with fear for family, society, and the Lord because of the destruction resulting from his deviant actions. Meanwhile, apathy is often accompanied by the disillusionment that has been accumulated in society.

The younger generation are often sandwiched between old norms acquired from their ancestors and new ones arising as a result of the development of The Times. In societies that are in a transition phase, the younger generation is increasingly depressed. Between the desire to express or the limits given. On the other hand, at a young age there is often a sense of wanting to prove yourself capable without having to depend on anyone, including the parents.

Young people who cannot control their feelings, their egos, their manners, and their beliefs often breach their values overtly. On negative behavior it does not seldom lead to alcohol and drug consumption, casual sex, motorcycle gangs that resort to thievery, brawls, gambling, and so on.

  • War

Unresolved issues have resulted in conflict and resentment between the two sides. In the end, the glowing embers will easily ignite a fire when the wind blows, if not enough. Wars have long - term effects such as fatalities, trauma, destruction of public facilities, revenge, and the breaking of social relationships. That is not enough, as a result of war there will be land settlements that may become slums, food shortages, and loss of education.

  • A resident problem

Unresolved social issues can cause unequal growth between one region and another. The development of the population includes unbalanced facilities, different subsidies, different quality of education, low resources, and seemingly distinguished economic prosperity. This can lead to poverty, crime, and so on.

The problems of the population divide into two major issues, the first matter of quantity covers the number of the population, the growth of the population, the composition of the population, and the density of the population. The second is the quality issues that include education, health, and income level.

  • Foolishness

Ignorance is the impact of social problems as economic and cultural unfinished. Foolishness can be the result of an economic inability such as inability to pay an education or because of the laziness to study and the lack of importance to education.

  • Social inequality

As a result of poverty that has been tolerated while capitalists and perpetrators have been kept in check. Social inequality can lead to crime as a result of economic imbalance.

  • Unemployment

Unemployment comes from poor people, lazy students, economic downturns, or unemployment from jobs.

  • Injustice

Injustice is the result of a party crossing the line and not being given a facility to obtain justice. However, whatever issues come our way, we'd better be able to take a lesson. Sometimes social problems have positive effects, some of which are as follows:

  • The potential for new norms and values.

  • The arrival of socio-economic changes.

  • Social structures are more dynamic.

  • Increased scientific and technological mastery.

  • Industrial growth.

  • Growing political consciousness.

  • Greater human rights protection (ham).

  1. Solutions to social problems

Our discussion on social issues would be futile without the anticipated solution. The following is Indonesia's attempt to address the social issues that are occurring:

  • Developing a small rural industry

The move can prevent village poverty, demean development, and prevent urbanisation (a move from village to city). The growth of the industry isa whole step from socializing, motivational investment and mindset, the selection, coaching, capital assistance, marketing assistance, and business management. With the comprehensive measure, it is conceivable that many industries are operating in rural areas. Village communities earn a variety of income, and this reduces the social problems.

  • Increasing labor mobility and capital stability

Previously existing labor force was given more intense training to be then transferred to a broader territory. So that they have competitiveness with other labor force. While the stability of capital is to move the industry from places that have too much unemployment to places that have more unemployment. This is done to achieve the integration of jobs.

  • Inculcating moral and religious values

Implanting religious teachings and the moral values in society can lower the risk of social problems. Furthermore, moral and religious values can strengthen a person's faith and thus distance him from crime.

  • Providing health - insurance assistance

Public health is a vital concern because it is vital to the building of a country. Furthermore, healthy societies portray the country as devoid of social problems.

  • Giving the school operational relief fund (boss) to students

This battery of bosses can go easy on students who can't afford to go to school. The more students get school, the better the quality of education. Education isa very important concern, especially to the country, because failure to pay attention can lead to social problems.

  • Providing a scholarship program

Not a few people yearn to further education, but have no expense that such a person cannot attain the coveted science. Therefore, giving a scholarship program for a person with specialized skills can improve human resources.

  • Deliver direct cash (BLT)

Economically struggling societies are a sign of social problems. BLT, therefore, will be of little help to economically struggling societies.
