One sunny afternoon, a little girl named Lily was playing in her garden. She loved running around and picking flowers. But on this day, something caught her attention. A small, gray cat was hiding under a bush near the fence. The cat looked scared and dirty, like it had been lost for a long time. Lily slowly walked toward the cat, trying not to scare it. She knelt down and spoke softly, "Hi, kitty. Are you lost?" The cat looked up at her with big, green eyes, but didn't move. Lily could see that the cat was nervous, so she stayed quiet for a moment, hoping it would feel safe.
After a while, Lily ran inside her house and came back with a small bowl of milk. She placed it gently in front of the cat. "Here, you can drink this if you're hungry," she said. The cat sniffed the milk, and then started to drink it slowly. Lily smiled, happy to help the little cat. Every day after that, Lily would go to the garden and look for the stray cat. She brought it food and water, and little by little, the cat started to trust her. It would come out from under the bush and sit beside her while she played. Sometimes, the cat even let Lily pet its soft fur.
One day, the cat followed Lily all the way to her house. It meowed softly, as if asking if it could stay. Lily was so excited! She ran to her mom and asked, "Mom, can we keep the cat? It doesn't have a home, and I've been taking care of it."
Lily's mom smiled and looked at the cat, who was now sitting calmly on the doorstep. "It seems like the cat has chosen you, Lily," her mom said. "Yes, we can keep it, but you have to take care of it every day."
Lily promised she would, and from that day on, the cat became part of their family. Lily named it "Milo" and made sure it always had food, water, and lots of love. Milo loved following Lily around and sitting on her lap while she read books or played in the garden.
Lily was happy she had found a new best friend in Milo. And Milo, who once had no home, now had a warm place to live and someone who loved him very much.
