Comparing Indonesia in Soekarno and Soeharto's time and Indonesia today, this country has really changed. Indonesia has now become a much much more "Islamic" country in the last few decades. 40 years ago, we used to have a national song with "gambling" and "drinking whiskey" as part of the lyric, we used to have legal casinos operating and paying for cities' infrastructures.. but not anymore now obviously. Gone are the days where everyone is free to do and practice whatever they like as long as it doesnt disturb or harm others. Gone are the days where if you don't like something, you just simply avoid it and don't do it. Now is the time where if you dont like something, then everyone else must not like it too; and if you believe in something, then everyone else must believe it the same way as you do too.

Pancasila, an Indonesian actual motto/foundation/ideology of 'Unity in Diversity' on which this country is really built on at first, has faded. Many people are now (really starting to) turns to Islam/Sharia as their main motto/foundation/ideology. It wont be too long until the war between Islam/Sharia, an Allah-made ideology, versus Pancasila, a man-made ideology, will break, causing many deaths and blood spilled. This war may not happen anytime soon (like in the next 10 or 20 years), but it will eventually happen later. NKRI (A term for "United Indonesia") will shatter and a new Islamic country will be established. (with, I assume, many other small new countries also established, like "Bali", "West Papua", etc. who are clearly opposing Sharia law).

Don't get me wrong, the problem lies not with Islam, (I know because I studied the religion and the quran thoroughly, and Islam is indeed a tolerant and a peaceful religion), but the problem lies with Indonesian education system.

1. Indonesian education system does not emphasize on critical thinking. When learning, even about religion, one must think. Most Indonesian muslims dont even read and understand the Quran and their everyday prayers in Indonesian language. Most dont really understand about Islam because when the knowledge comes from verbal explanation from someone else, (even if they twists the meaning and explanation), most just accept everything as dogma. It is very very very rare that people actually read, think, and analyze the sources themselves. A lack of critical thinking will also results in not wanting to understand or to see others point of view because they also simply dont want to read, think, and study other people's sources (i.e, how many Indonesian muslims actually read the bible and/or other religions' guide book?).

2. Indonesia need to really really emphasize Pancasila in younger generations school-study. Tell them early, as Soekarno once said, "this country does not belong to one particular group and religion, everyone is welcome to practice their own religions, we are all united under Pancasila."

---

Anyway, at this point I am very doubtful that Indonesia is going to be able to change their education system and their people's mindset (please prove me wrong). A war between Pancasila vs Sharia is coming..
