Sekadau Regency Holds XII Dayak Gawai Week With the Theme "Unity for All"

Sekadau, 18 July 2023 - Sekadau Regency will hold the XII Gawai Dayak Week which will be held at the Betang Youth Center Sekadau House from 18 to 22 July 2023. The event with the theme "United for All" aims to realize advanced Dayak , dignified, and sovereign.

Gawai Dayak Week of Sekadau Regency is an annual event which is a forum for preserving and promoting Dayak culture to the wider community. In this series of events, various competitions will be held that will showcase the richness of Dayak culture, including cultural parades, cultural ceremonies, Bujang & Dara gawai festivals, traditional crafts, traditional ceremonies, creative dance festivals, creative Dayak fashion festivals, folk games, cultural seminars , exhibition stands, typical Dayak culinary delights and many other competitions. Gawai Dayak XII of Sekadau Regency began with a cultural parade which was attended by DAD ranks from 7 sub-districts, TBBR, as well as MABM and MABT to take part in the parade.

According to the organizing committee, these competitions are expected to arouse people's enthusiasm and love for Dayak culture, as well as provide an opportunity for the younger generation to show their creativity and talents in various fields of art and culture.

Not only that, the Gawai Dayak Week of Sekadau Regency will also be enlivened by well-known Dayak artists, including Tino Ame, Aan Banget, Tambunesia, and many other artists who will entertain visitors with their energetic and enthusiastic performances. The presence of these artists is expected to attract visitors from various regions to attend this Gawai Dayak event.

Responses from local residents regarding the Gawai Dayak event, I have conducted interviews with several residents. Selvi Aurelia, a resident of Sekadau, said, "I am very happy with this Gawai Dayak Week. This event provides an opportunity for us to learn about and appreciate the rich culture of the Dayak. I hope this event can continue to be held every year."

Meanwhile, Mrs. Linda, a housewife, said, "My children are very enthusiastic about the competitions that are being held during Gawai Dayak Week. They have been practicing to take part in the creative dance competition. Events like this are very important to maintain and preserving the Dayak cultural heritage for the younger generation," he said.

With the spirit of "United for All", the XII Sekadau Regency Gawai Dayak Week is expected to be a valuable momentum in strengthening unity and the spirit of mutual cooperation in maintaining the richness of Dayak culture, preserving Dayak culture to the wider community and May this celebration become an event lively, full of enthusiasm, joy, and increase the positive footprint in the preservation of Dayak culture.
