SOME SOCIETAL CHANGES THAT ARE TAKING PLACE 

IN MY OWN COUNTRY 

AS THE RESULT OF MODERN TECHNOLOGY  

The developing of modern technology has begun to produce some societal changes that are taking place in my country (Indonesia). Some of these changes can be described as following:

People tend to be individualism. Individualism is a trend in society influenced by the modern technology. The society is become more individual. They did not care one another because busy their selves with everything called modernization. They are working and making relation with their clients, partners or institutions using the equipments produced by modern technology. This means that they not need other persons to do it, so they become individualistic, even seem like egoistic. The phenomena in one hand, is a positive condition but it is negative, if that is occurring constantly in every time and all moment.   

The society is become more plural. One of the indicators of the modern technology is pluralism. Pluralism is simply defined as a social condition structured by a various ethnic, groups, religions, cultures, background of life, languages, jobs, etc, that living in an environment forming a society. Consequently, it is not prevented that the development of modern technology brought a plurality condition in a society because of exchanging some persons needed. Technology exchange from a country to other accompanied with the exchange of some experts which may be from the different ethnic, culture or religion.     

Changes in the human relationship. Certainly, pluralism as described above influences or makes new patterns of human relationship. When a various people living in an environment, a pattern of human relationship is forming. The life style, the way of relation and culture of the various people that are derived from various country will be established in the society where the various people lived. It will influence the pattern of their relation and communication.   

Changes in culture. Entering the various people in the country as a result of modern technology also increases some cultures which on the one side enrich the cultures of the country but on the other hand it may also contaminate our cultures if the external cultures are contradictory. However, the positive impact external cultures such as high discipline, working hard, systematic and structured of thinking and doing can provide values in improving our patterns of attitudes, habits and our overall systems.

Media communication is become more various. Clearly, the modern technology has produced various media and equipment, both in communicating and in working. There are several equipments produced by the modern technology: phone, internet, television, magazines, newspapers, etc. We are recognized that these equipment have many positive utilizations but it can produce some negative impacts when these media are used wrongly or presented some deprave programs or information.

Some positive changes. In spite of the modern technology has any negative impacts, but at the same time it has many positive impacts. Those are increases human knowledge, abilities and skills; provides many modern and sophisticated media and technology for society; improves societies' attitudes, patterns, or habits and systems; new experiences can be attained; helps societies in achieving more new information; the jobs can be done efficiently and effectively; increase the rate of socio economic; reduces the rate of out of workers; gives some innovative system or procedures, etc.
