Diversity is a word that describes the country that I live in perfectly. Indonesia, that is. A country that is filled with a mixture of culture, tradition, ethnicity, and many more. Living in such a country can certainly be a challenge. With all of the difference in point of views, acceptance is surely difficult to obtain.

All of the hardships that Indonesia has lately been going through, only emphasize the difference in the citizen’s way of thinking even more. It shows how we, Indonesians who’re proud of our country and nationality, have failed in accomplishing the task that matters the most. And that is to understand and respect one another. Regardless of the difference in ethnicity, religion, culture, etc.

As a developing country, we need to realize that we can’t accomplish many things unless we work together. And in order to be able to work together, one needs to be able to put aside their differences and learn to accept one another. One needs to be able to look past the other’s flaws and see the unique aspect that the other can bring to the table.

“Acceptance of each other differences is the key to change”

If we, the citizen of Indonesia manages to accomplish this simple task, then surely many of our religion, ethnicity, and tradition based problems will surely dissipate. And we, as a country will slowly but surely prosper and head into the right direction. We will finally reach the state that we’ve all been searching for. The state in which our country finally manages to obtain acceptance and peace.

A country where one could easily express their own opinions without getting judged is nice, isn’t it? A country where one could freely embrace their ethnicity, culture, and tradition is desirable, isn’t it? So what are we waiting for.  It’s time to take matters into our own hands. We can’t just sit still and wait for someone to take action. It’s time to be that someone. For once, let’s be the trend setter rather than the follower.

“The beauty of the world lies in the diversity of it’s people”
