Nowadays, in this globalization era many parents expect their kids to master English therefore they send their kids to national plus or international schools to make their kids speak English fluently. Some parents send their kids to English courses after school.
They are very proud and satisfied if the person who teach their kids are native speaker of English. They believe that the native speakers of English can help their kids to speak English as a global language naturally and confidently.
To meet the parents demand and expectation, many national plus and international schools employ native speakers of English to teach at their school or institution.
Hiring native speakers of English is no problem as long as they have a certificate of teaching. People who have a certificate of teaching will be different with they who don't have. The reality is that many of them do not have the teaching certificate. Some of them know nothing about teaching because they don't understand about teaching pedagogy and language methology, which are very important in the teaching-learning process. Both must exist. So sad to know that our children are not taught properly because the teacher lack of the skills of teaching.

National plus schools, International
schools and English courses that hire native speakers of English are wide spread out in big cities in Indonesia. Many of the native speakers of English do not have degree in teaching English. Some of them do not have degree in any field. They have only western face and are able to speak English. While it is a must for the non-native speakers of English have a degree in Teaching English as a Foreign Language ( TEFL).
So upset to know that a non-native speakers of English who has more than five or ten-year experience of teaching, has a degree or a master degree in language teaching, and with a 500 - 550 TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) score has a lower salary than the native speakers of English.
In my opinion, non-native speakers of English who have a teaching certificate of competency and professions can teach better than the native speakers of English who don't have any degree in teaching.
Many non-native speakers of English impress me much with their teaching ability. They can create an atmosphere which make the learners enjoy to speak up without worrying of their grammatical mistake in speaking. For some learners who are still afraid of making mistake in speaking, they can mix Bahasa Indonesia with English. Moreover, they teach the learners some moral values which is very important in eastern culture.

We, as parents, educators, and Indonesian citizens are opened to anyone who want to teach any lesson, especially English in Indonesia. But, there should be the right person on the right place. It means they should pass some test for the selection and have a certificate in teaching. And the last but not least, they have to know easter culture. There are some words that shouldn't be heard by learners such as S***, F***, and so on. If they say it in front of the class, then all leaners will repeat it. Teachers are the model, right?
