I am fond of the power of Smartphone produced by Nokia, since the first time it was published to public. I like the hardware of Nokia as it is always offered in high quality. The first Smartphone I bought was Nokia N95. The feature was satisfying, well-known and complete at that time. The camera was good. The quality of music was clear. It was also supported by the availability of HSDPA network.

Just then, when Symbian got unpopular, after Smartphone from other vendor offered their technology of Android and iOS, the popularity of Nokia was getting down. They tried to kick Nokia, which was recently familiar as the king of Smartphone. But, finally Nokia decided to make a corporation with Microsoft and OS from Windows Phone in order to get its Smartphone users back from Android and iOS.

As a matter of fact, Windows Phone was not bad OS actually, as well as the Hardware of Nokia was in a high quality. But unfortunately, it has been four years for Nokia finding difficulties in selling the product in all over the world.

According to several sources that I’ve read in many forums in Internet, that there are so many factors will become the reasons of why people are not interested in choosing Lumia as their Smartphone to communicate. The first reason, many users of Lumia interface feel so boring. Because, the developer is rare in making the launcher. The users of Lumia interface have also been given in such standardized system. Secondly, the lack of the availability application in Microsoft store. Thirdly, it is the most important thing for me to tell you clearly. It is not just an opinion, but it is my own experience.

Lumia is distributed to almost all countries, especially to some growing countries like Indonesia. But, there is a big problem which the people don’t want to buy it because of the network setting and some given reasons above. Let’s try to describe it more.

In Indonesia, one operator tower is used by two network, 2G and 3G which the position of antenna of 3G is under 2G. According to operator, that the length of 2G network is different from 3G. 3G is shorter than 2G. 2G is also stronger than 3G. It impacts to people whose house are far from the tower, will get difficulty to receive the 3G signal. Because, the signal of 2G must be stronger in this case. The option in Nokia Lumia only offers Dual Mode (2G/3G) becomes the main option. As a result, this case will impact to Lumia to make a priority of which network is the strongest, although we have already got 3G network. In this case, the smartphone chooses 2G as the strongest network. As an example to compare:

Nokia N95 8GB : 2G Only, 3G Only, And Dual Mode

Samsung SII       : 2G Only, 3G Only, And Dual Mode

Blackberry         : 2G Only, 3G Only, And Dual Mode

Nokia E72          : 2G Only, 3G Only, And Dual Mode

On the other hand, Lumia 620 only offers    : 2G Only, Dual Mode

In another smartphone, when I choose dual mode 2G/3G network in a less signal area, when the 2G network is displayed 100%, and 3G is 80%, the 2G will mostly become the priority. On the other hand, when I change it to 3G only, all smartphone will receive 3G network, in spite of getting only 80%. But in this case, Lumia is not. Although, it is hard to have 3G in a priority scale, it is displayed only 2G/EDGE on the screen.

Talking about such problem, many people in Microsoft and Nokia forum take a pity on unavailability 3G only option. Unfortunately, Microsoft and Nokia don’t hear such case. As a result, many users of Lumia get lose when they access internet, because it serves only 2G/EDGE. This impacts to uneconomical existing credit. In Indonesia, almost all operators, like XL and Telkomsel, apply 3G priority quota. It means, for example, Telkomsel operator sells internet package for $3 per month. The given quote is 600MB, which the qouta for 2G and 3G is 150MB and 450MB for 3G only. When the internet quota of 2G has finished, then the regular credit will be cut per kB. Because, the internet access is 2G/EDGE.

I found myself like Microsoft and Nokia Lumia product so much. But, the problem I described above makes myself frustrating and never using Lumia anymore. It is better for Microsoft and Nokia, hearing this complaint. So that, many users enjoy using Smartphone.

What about your experience for Lumia product?
