Review "Tormented" Movie

Women's education seems to be a pleasant  public conversation, highly education is unnecessary for women, they will only end up being a mother at home, doing all the housework and taking care of childrens.  This movie seems to funnel the voices of women, being a housewife doesn' t mean prohibited to be highly educated, women who are educated and work are proof that they are strong, not necessarily men who always dominate.  The community must know that being born as a woman is not wrong.  But what can women like us do?.

Tormented is a short movie made by students from IAIN Surakarta in 2018, this movie is an adaptation of a short story made by Virginia Wolf entitled "The Mark on the Wall". This story centers around the life of a woman named Diana who is married and wants to continue her dream to be able to work and continue her education, but must be opposed by her husband named Dianto, who thinks that the married woman must be at home and become a housewife. Diana felt uneasy with the stereotype of the people who underestimate with her dreams and independence of a married woman who had to be at home to take care of household life and bury all her dreams.

This movie is shown with the drama genre of married life but, the chemistry built into the story seems very rigid.  Although there have been several attempts to show the romantic side of husband and wife, Diana and Dianto still failed to make the audience 'baper'. But in their respective roles between Diana and Dianto itself, it seems appropriate to be acted by them, the innocent expressions of the gestures displayed are quite interesting. 

The costumes used by the cast in this film are quite good and in accordance with the theme in the movie. However, the main actors look the same several times in a variety of different situations, moreover the costume that Dianto uses almost every day looks the same and is boring. Luckily, the costume worn by Diana managed to cover up all the oddities that occur in this movie. Diana managed to place appropriate clothing in the situation she experienced. Although in some cases this can confuse the audience in the program being shown. Several times, supporting cast members also look the same in different situations and places. Luckily this is not a problem. 

Cinematography in this movie really spoiled our eyes. With the background of the house in the hills and green scenery from the rice fields and plantations, we indirectly feel the cool atmosphere created there.The choice of settings for each scene in this movie is very compatible with real life, whether it's a scene atmosphere, time or place. 

However, the success of this movie cinematography hasn't been able to cover the weakness of the use of backsound.  In some scenes, the backsound used is very interesting, gripping and leading the audience into the story.  However, backsound selection seems 'inappropriate' in the wedding scene, the music tempo is bit fast and reduces the value of the sacredness from the marriage.  The backsound frequency in some transitions also heard in contrast, which at first was high volume suddenly slowed down, and sounds clear.

So,  this movie is worth 6/10 aka okay movie. The interesting display and excellent selection of another elements, unable to cover up the weakness of the story in this film. The awesome presentation make this movie looks comfortable in the eyes but is very draining our brain energy because the story line is complicated.
