This is a nice movie to watch. A family movie to make you laugh. I like its setting, its detail, its wardrobe, its music, and its story. It is a remake of 80s original version. When I saw the poster, I thought it's just an ordinary funny musical movie, but I was wrong. Hairspray brings a deeper hidden message which is about apartheid and culture in Baltimore. They are sending the message in a light sophisticated way. Amazing!
The casts are reputable stars in musical genre such as John Travolta, Christopher Walken, James Marsden, Queen Latifah, Michelle Pfeiffer, Amanda Bynes, Zac Efron, and the new comer: Nikki Blonsky. This movie will definitely swing you. The casts definitely can sing, the music makes you wanna sing along with them, the portion is just right, there are parts when you think it's too silly, but it's not a major damage to the entire story. They exaggerate it a little bit, but it's not harmful.. it will only make you laugh. I'd love to address my compliments to the following casts:
John Travolta: His acting as a housewife is soooo awesome. He makes audience ignore the fact that there's a guy hiding behind all the professional make up and beautiful wardrobe. The only thing to remind you about the creepy fact is his chin. Whenever the camera zooms to his face (which dominated by his double chin hehe), you will remember him as John Travolta. Using high pitch voice, his acting as a woman deserves a big applause.
Nikki Blonsky: She's a chubby plastic girl. Eventho' she's overweight, she can moves swiftly. Her dance moves are far better than Britney Spears. SERIOUSLY! Her spirit is contagious. Seeing her moves around makes me feel ashame on myself, I envy her elasticity :D Welcome to Holywood, my dear! Tinseltown needs more talented big girls like you, Jeniffer Hudson, and America Ferrera. Big girls rule! Move over, Paris Hilton! We need girls with real brain, talent, and curves!
Christopher Walken: I saw him dancing on the famous Fatboy Slim's Weapon of Choice video clip, but I never really hear him sing. In this movie, he sings and dances at the same time. Well, it's not bad. It's OK. He played his role as a "TELMI" husband brilliantly.
Another new comer that caught my attention is Taylor Parks. As Little Inez, Blonsky's friend's younger sister who rocks the show, she did her job well. She reminds me of Alyson Stoner a.k.a. the girl in pink tracksuit who dances on Missy Elliot's work it video. COOL!
Nuff said, watch it yourself. I'm done talking!
