One of my favorite lessons when I was a first grade student (kelas 1 SD) is a course called "Pendidikan Moral Pancasila" (PMP).  It was in early 1980s. I still remember the textbook. Its cover was green, and it was published by Balai Pustaka Jakarta. The book was so simple, probably because it was designed for kids aged between 6 to 8. Yet, the lessons introduced in the book was highly valuable. It taught us about God as the Creator of the Universe. It taught us about tolerance, respecting others, being nice persons in our neighborhoods, etc. The way the book tried to cultivate these good values was really cool and interesting. It provided us with short stories and illustration. For instance, when your parents have a guest and your younger brother makes noise, then you are supposed to "warn" him to be more quite. When you see your friends fighting each other, you are supposed to stop the fighting. When your neighbors celebrate their religious days, you are supposed to respect them. These lessons were cultivated into my minds and still remain in my minds until now. Perhaps, this was not just because the textbook was good, but also because the teacher was so effective. Our teacher, Bu Kom was a very effective teacher. She was so kind and so lovely. She taught us using many many  examples from our daily life, which made the lesson much more understandable for kids like me. I am not sure whether Pendidikan Moral Pancasila (PMP) is still taught in our elementary schools today. But I do hope our children today still have a similar lesson to learn: A lesson that focuses on affective domain of human beings, not just on cognitive one; A lesson that cultivates a very fundamental teachings on how we live with others and how we behave among others; A lesson that shows us how we believe in God without humiliating others' beliefs. That was really a very fundamental lesson about how to live on the earth.
