Bad genius (2017) is a film which is directed by Nattawut Poonpiriya. This heist thriller film is taken from a true story. Bad Genius begins when a genius high school girl named Lynn  moves to a new school, for easier access to college scholarships. Lynn is described as a genius and poor young girl. As time went on, Lynn's genius was utilized by her friends to cheat. Amazingly, to provide a cheat sheet, Lynn uses unusual codes from piano notation to barcodes in a pencil. This cheating activity changed into an illicit business, where every subject, Lynn pegged a price that is not cheap.
Short story, at the end of the 3rd grade, Lynn and her friends had an even crazier idea to cheat on the U.S. college entrance exam. This exam known as STIC. Lynn and her friends plan everything carefully. The STIC exam starts at the same time in all parts of the world, Lynn has the idea to start the test first in another country, so that she could find out about the question and still have time to transfer all the answers to her friends. Of course, this answer is not free. Technology plays a huge role in this. Lynn and her group opened the STIC answer key service to their friends at a pretty fantastic price. It's conceivable how much profit Lynn will get for herself. Bad Genius is very well packaged. The thrill will be felt for the audience who saw this film. Amazingly, the film will get adrenaline pumping and make it look as if the audience is involved in it.
The most thrilling moment was when the STIC college entrance exam took place. That's where the role of technology plays a huge role in this part. Â Lynn has to send answers via her smartphone. Nowadays, technology such as smartphones really makes easier for us to do everything, especially to exchange messages. In the past, exchanging messages was still done by letter, it took a very long time for our message to reach the person. The time at which the letter arrives, depends on the distance between the sender and the recipient. The closer it is, the faster it will be and the further it is, the longer it will be. Over time, chat apps on smartphones really make it easier for us. Now, relying on smartphone devices and internet networks, we can exchange messages in just a second, regardless of the distance or time.
Chat applications also have both positive and negative impacts in the field of education. One of the positive impacts is that chat applications really help us in supporting studies because with chat applications all information can be disseminated easily, the examples are class groups or group lessons to discuss. The negative impact is when hoax news easily spreads on chat apps. Therefore, we must be selective in determining which are good and bad.
Technologies such as barcodes are also used as answer key codes in Bad Genius film. Bold barcode signifies answer A, thinner B, thinner than B is C, and so on. This barcode is printed into pencils that will then be distributed to the test taker who has paid for the answer key. Barcode itself actually has a function to store information from an item or product. As the time goes by, barcode codes are also used in the world of education. This barcode code is usually be a marker of exam questions, with a function to distinguish problems to make it difficult for students to cheat.
In conclusion, it is undeniable that the development of the times is also followed by the development of technology. Of course, this technology brings positive and negative impact to its users. It all depends on how we use it.
