Take Notes by Handwriting vs Type on Your smart phone

Writing or taking notes is something that many students do. With the development of many advanced technologies today, smartphones, ipads and laptops are also used as media to facilitate the learning process, one of which is writing or taking notes. As we know many people can type faster than they can write by hand. We live in a digital age where daily functions involve digital communication. One of them is that the use of digital devices such as typing using a laptop or gadget is also an important skill, and tools and applications for digital communication will continue to evolve and replace it. For some people, this is a very useful skill that will allow you to take a lot of notes, quickly and easily. Whereas, for some others think that taking notes with a book or taking notes physically is better because they can be more flexible to add footnotes where they want. But which is the best and most effective for taking notes, is it using a pen and a book or using a digital device?

In a study conducted by Pricenton University on taking notes manually and using digital devices in 2014. They found the fact that those who took notes using gadgets were more likely to type the lecturer's words completely and quickly word for word, while students who wrote with the hand certainly makes them take slower notes because they have no other choice but to digest the information in such a way as to allow them to summarize it on paper. This shows that the advantages of using digital devices such as gadgets or laptops allow us to take notes quickly and effectively. Moreover, we can take pictures for our notes and record all the material given by the lecturer and we can play it back anytime and anywhere. Besides that, the use of gadgets can also reduce the impact of environmental pollution such as not requiring a lot of paper and being more efficient.

However, there were some weaknesses found from recording using digital devices. According to the explanation of researchers from Pricenton University, they found the phenomenon that those who took notes using pen and paper tended to have a more comprehensive and in-depth understanding of the material because during their notes they focused more on summarizing and noting important things instead of transcribing word for word.

In the end it all comes back to our individual needs, if we want to be able to type fast and have complete notes or transcriptions, then digital devices are the ideal option. However, if our goal is to understand the summary of the material better and not just take notes of the material, then take notes by hand. Pack again It all depends on how we choose and what methods we use.
