Hello,
My name is Rike, I’m a student of Communication and Public Relations major in Swiss German University and I’ll be in my 4th semester this March. All the commotions around the blockade of SGU really make me sad. However, I’m not going to write about how sad I am (even though I am).
I’m going to tell you about my awesome 1.5 years of being a CommPR student in Swiss German University, how they give me a chance to bring the best in me and how awesome the friends and the lecturers are.
SGU gives me a chance to bring the best in all aspects of me. My friend and I made a modern dance UKM (student club) from zero. I even managed it single handedly for a full 6 months because my friend were in Bali doing her internship, found a coach for the team and handle the permission to use a room for practice. I’d never thought I would be able to manage a club, let alone make one.
I was also trusted to be the head marketing for SGU High School English Competition. It turned out really well and I had so much fun helping my English lecturer, mr. James, in the English competition.
I was never the cool kid in high school, I didn’t really have friends because I was always the quiet one. Now, I have friends from semester 1 to 8. I mean, I didn’t know I’d have so many friends but SGU has zero seniority, I joke and hang out a lot with seniors. There’s no scary senior in SGU, they will gladly listen and answer any question you have. Be it about subjects, lecturers, or even if you just want to pour your heart out to them (I asked my mentor from orientation week for his opinion about a senior I had a crush on lol. Hi kak Josh if you’re reading this HAHAHA).
Moving on to more cool stuff, I’m now the head of SGU BEM PR! I never, in a million years, thought I’d be the head of a division in a university student organisation. At first, I didn’t want to join the student organisation because I was not a part of anything in my high school years, but the seniors talking about how fun it is to join student organisation made me want to try. And now here I am appointed the honour position of the head of BEM PR.
I also did my first ever working experience through the internship curriculum in my 3rd semester. I learned so much during the internship. Searching for the vacancy, how to prepare for the interviews, the nervousness, going through interviews only to get rejected and the joy of being accepted into a company with my own effort. Not less important, I got such an  in-valuable experience from the internship. I was accepted in a small non-profit organisation, so I helped a lot and got to know how a public relations division works in a company directly, not just through theories in class. I can’t wait to go to Germany for my 6th semester internship!
Ich jetzt spreche Deutsch. Noch nicht so gut aber ich freue mich für die Gelegenheit
Enough of that paragraph. Really, my German is not good yet lol.
Now, let’s talk about how awesome my friends and lecturers are!
There’s no secret in the class, everybody knows who everybody’s crushes are. Yes, I know it’s weird but that’s how close we are as a class ♥. We even make nicknames for some people. There’s Mama CommPR, Princess CommPR, Counsellor CommPR, Baby CommPR (this is me). Not only students, we also have nicknames for SGU staffs. There’s Mas Favorit and Mas Cuy. The best part is, on the last day of each semester, we make a video telling how the semester went and we’re planning to play it on our graduation day. It’d be soooo cool!! I’m so happy just thinking about my friends!
Every lecturers got our backs. They’re really professional in class but out of class, they’re our friends. We can talk about everything with them. There’s this one time our lecturer helped a friend of mine draw her eyebrows. How awesome is that?! (you know who you are, girl. That’s some fun memory in class). We also ate together with our Basic & Narrative Writing lecturer in AEON after our final exam. I’ll put the photo here, it was so much fun!
