A Vicious Cycle

in the shadows where despair takes hold
a vicious cycle, relentless and bold
a dance of echoes, a haunting song
a tale of struggles that linger long

it starts with whispers, soft and sly
seeds of doubt that silently pry
into the mind, they slowly creep
a darkness that's hard to shake or keep

the first step taken in the maze
a hesitant move, a wary gaze
choices made with trembling hands
in this cycle, no one understands

the echoes grow into a roar
as consequences knock on the door
regret and sorrow intertwined
a vicious cycle of the troubled mind

mistakes become the chains that bind
a relentless loop of the confined
yet, in the heart, a flicker glows
a tiny flame, a hope that shows

but hope, too, can be a double-edged sword
for in this cycle, it's often ignored
the struggle persists, a constant fight
in the shadows, hidden from the light

break the chains, oh weary soul
find the strength to reach the goal
break the cycle, cease the strife
embrace the dawn, the gift of life

in the echoes, let resilience chime
a melody that transcends through time
for in breaking free from the night
a phoenix rises, embracing the light
