He lives in the metropolitan city of San Fransokyo and spends his daily life participating in illegal robot fights. Hiro's older brother, Tadashi is afraid that Hiro will waste his potentials. Tadashi then brought Hiro to the university where he studied, San Fransokyo Institute of Technology (SFIT), where Hiro met Tadashi's friends. They are Go Go Tomago, Fred, Wasabi No-Ginger, and Honey Lemon. In addition, he also met Baymax, a personal health guard robot created by Tadashi. Hiro is amazed and decided to join SFIT. Hiro then do a presentation about his project, which is Microbots, to enter SFIT. Microbots are groups of tiny robots that can join together to form anything in any shadow setting. Professor Callaghan, chairman of the university program, was interested in Hiro's project. Hiro then made it into the university. In addition, Alistair Krei, the president of the Tech Company, attempted to buy Hiro's creation but he was unable to buy the microbots. Suddenly a fire broke out at the exhibition site and just as the fire started to burn, Tadashi went inside to save Callaghan who was trapped inside, but an explosion occurred and Tadashi died in the incident. After his brother's death, Hiro became quiet and isolated himself from his friends.
One day, Hiro accidentally activated Baymax and at the same time he found 1 microbot in his jacket pocket, the microbot took them both to a warehouse house that had been abandoned for a long time. There, Hiro discovers that someone has multiplied a very large number of his microbots. Then, they are attacked by a man wearing a mask (nicknamed "Yokai") who controls the microbots of his creation. They then ran away and went to the police station. However, they were unable to convince the police about him being attacked by Yokai so he decided to arrest the masked man himself. He then updated Baymax with the armor he created and fitted it with a fighter chip. One day, Hiro was involved in the attack on Yokai Microbots with Go Go Tomago, Fred, Wasabi, and Honey Lemon. Those who were unable to fight immediately fled in Wasabi's van. Wasabi's van then drowned and Baymax immediately helped them. They also fled to Fred's mansion. There, Hiro formed a superhero group consisting of Hiro, Honey Lemon, Baymax, Wasabi, Fred, and Go Go Tomago. Hiro created armor for all of his friends, including himself and Baymax.
They immediately investigated Krei Tech's old laboratory which was once used to test teleportation technology. A scene was seen where a test pilot drove a vehicle to a portal and was trapped in it. They were then attacked by Yokai and after a short fight, Hiro managed to remove his mask and found that it was Professor Callaghan, Callaghan had also stolen Hiro's Microbots to save himself from the fire at that time. After learning that Tadashi died in vain, Hiro became angry and told Baymax to kill him. But Baymax didn't want to kill Callaghan. Hiro then roughly threw away Baymax's nurse chip and put in his fighter chip. This makes Baymax instantly become a killing machine and immediately tries to kill Callaghan. Hiro's friends immediately stopped him and finally Honey Lemon put Baymax's nurse chip back in, Baymax returned to normal and Callaghan immediately ran away. Hiro is angry with his friends and returns to his house. In his garage, he tries to get rid of his nursing chips again, but can't. Hiro said that killing Callaghan can satisfy him and calm his heart, Baymax then shows a video about Tadashi's test of Baymax, where Tadashi only succeeded in the 84th test, Hiro then realized that killing Callaghan was not what Tadashi asked to avenge his death.
Hiro and his friends later learned that the test pilot who was trapped in the portal was Callaghan's daughter, Abigail, and it turned out that Callaghan wanted to take revenge on Alistair Krei for causing his daughter's death. Callaghan wanted to kill Krei by throwing him in the active portal. However, the plan has been interrupted by Hiro and his friends by incapacitating a number of Callaghan's Microbots. In the active portal, Baymax has detected a life sign from Abigail, Hiro and Baymax immediately enter the portal to save her, but on the way out, Baymax's armor is damaged so the only way to save Abigail and Hiro is by firing his rocket fist. Baymax. Hiro initially didn't want to leave Baymax, but in the end he had to leave Baymax behind with tears in his eyes. After they got out, the portal finally exploded. Abigail was rushed to the hospital and Callaghan was arrested by the police.
One day after the incident, Hiro found Baymax's nurse chip containing all of Baymax's personalities in Baymax's rocket fist. He made Baymax again and his happiness returned. The film ends when Hiro, Baymax, and their friends protect the city in hopes of fulfilling Tadashi's wish to help many people. In the credits, a picture of a newspaper headline shows that Hiro has been given grants from a university and a building dedicated to Tadashi. In a scene after the credits, Fred accidentally opens a secret door in his family home and finds the superhero gear inside, where Fred meets his father, a retired superhero. Her father said that they had a lot of time to talk which was said while they were cuddling.
