Looking for something classical to see in Solo City/Surakarta, Central Java, Indonesia? Sriwedari Park can be your top option to visit. This park is absolutely old because it has been built more a hundred year ago by King Pakubuwono X of Surakarta Palace. Every evening, except Sunday, you can watch Javanese traditional opera called "Wayang Orang" with very affordable ticket price (less than 1 US$). You can also watch some kids and teenagers practicing Javanese dance in the main hall "joglo" every afternoon. To satisfy your curiosity about Solonese antique stuffs, you can also go to Radya Mustaka Museum in this area. It is the oldest museum in Indonesia. The location of Sriwedari Park itself is very strategic. It is on the center of Solo city, in the Slamet Riyadi Main street.
Another classical spot you can see here is the shop of Javanese traditional toys. The area is shady under the old big trees. At a glance, you may see what kind of toys played by Javanese kids. Some of the stuffs you can buy here are "jaran kepang (a kind of flat hobbyhorse)", "pecut (small whip)", "topeng buto (devil mask)", "miniature of gamelan (a complete set of Javanese traditional music", artificial "wayang kulit (leather puppet)" which is made by cartoon, and still many others. Â The prices are generally normal and you can bargain. Let's play :) or you can bring some of them as souvenirs :)
