The Role of English in the Architecture Industry: Insights from CV. DWIMATRA

Dwimatra Means mixed studio of CV. DAMARTA GRAHA, AKARTAMA STUDIO, AND CV. ELANG EMAS TIMUR.
The use of English in the architecture industry is becoming increasingly essential, particularly in fields such as interior design and design consultancy. As architecture is a globally connected profession, effective communication plays a crucial role in ensuring successful project execution, collaboration, and innovation. Our team recently conducted a work visit to CV. DWIMATRA, an architectural studio, where we had the opportunity to interview one of the staff members, Mr. Farhan. His insights highlight the importance of English proficiency in the industry and its correlation with key challenges and skills required for architects today.
Balancing Creativity with Practicality: The Role of English
When asked about the biggest challenge architects face today, Mr. Farhan emphasized the difficulty of balancing creativity with practicality. Clients seek unique designs that are also cost-effective, sustainable, and compliant with regulations. In this context, English plays a significant role in facilitating clear communication between architects, clients, and regulatory bodies. Many architectural standards, building codes, and sustainability guidelines are documented in English, making it essential for architects to have strong language skills to interpret and implement these requirements effectively.
