Volunteering Program in Faculty of Adab and Humanities Provides Valuable Learning Experience for Students
2024, Bandung. Â The Faculty of Adab and Humanities recently concluded its open recruitment for the Volunteering Program, which offers students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in various roles such as podcast crew, journalist, translator, and more. Among the standout stories from this year's participants is a student who joined the "Siniar Sunda" podcast crew, providing a firsthand account of how this unique experience helped shape their academic and professional journey.
My name is Rizky Roy Rizwaanshah. Â Initially i was unsure of how to spend time during my time on third semester, i was looking for an opportunity to enhance skills and gain real-world experience. Upon hearing about the open recruitment, i applied for the journalist position but was eventually selected for the podcast crew, specifically for "Siniar Sunda," a podcast dedicated to Sundanese culture.
"Siniar Sunda" is a talk show-style podcast hosted by Mr. Resa Restu Pauji, where each episode focuses on various aspects of Sundanese culture, featuring different guests and diverse topics. The podcast is part of the faculty's initiative to promote cultural awareness and provide students with opportunities to engage in creative media production.
Assigned as the podcast operator, i took on the responsibility of creating YouTube links for live video streams, designing intros, bumpers, running text, and operating the OBS system to manage live broadcasts. Though the technical aspects of the job were entirely new, the student embraced the challenge, teaching themselves how to use the necessary software and seeking help from more experienced peers.
Reflecting on the first broadcast, i could describe the experience as both overwhelming and rewarding. It is nerve-wracking at first because it was my first time working with OBS, and I was afraid something might go wrong. But with the support of my team and friends, we managed to pull off the first live show without any major issues.
Over the course of five episodes, Me and the rest of the podcast crew grew more confident and efficient, improving their workflow and reducing mistakes. By the end of the project, the student had not only gained technical skills but also formed meaningful relationships with professors and students from different departments.
Honestly i was initially disappointed when I didn't get the journalist position, but being part of the podcast crew ended up being one of the most valuable experiences of my college life. I learned so much, and it taught me the importance of adaptability and resilience.
The Volunteering Program at the Faculty of Adab and Humanities continues to provide students with unique opportunities to develop practical skills, work collaboratively, and engage in creative and cultural projects. The success of programs like "Siniar Sunda" demonstrates the faculty's commitment to offering diverse, hands-on learning experiences for students.
