Thus, the art of Javanese batik was born from a Javanese tradition. Indeed, some say, if batik was originally born from the palace custom. However, it was actually born in the periphery of society. It became a kind of side activity of agrarian or maritime society. Then, it became an offering for the kings.
In my discernment, it is actually a deep message to the ruler. That, in exercising power, a king must act wisely when making decisions. He must understand what is the will of his people. This is also reflected in the diversity of batik motifs that are not the same. Each different community group has a different batik motif.
And, that is also what makes me call batik a work of art. Not just a craft object. I think it should be considered to include batik as an art object.
