In public speaking, We certainly find it difficult to convey something, especially when We don't have good public speaking skills. Of course, with good public speaking, We will find it easier and more confident when speaking in public. So what is public speaking? Public speaking is the ability to speak in public with confidence. Well, actually, public speaking skills must be constantly trained.

Here are some tips and tricks on how to practice public speaking properly, so that You look like a professional public speaker who is cool and not boring when public speaking.

1.    Tricks to Prepare Public Speaking Materials.

Before We speak in front of audiens, make sure everything is ready, both in terms of what material You want to convey and Your mentality.

There is a trick in preparing material to make it easier, namely using the 5W1H method.

The 5W1H or 5W+1H formula always appears in discussions about news writing, and You can also be used when speaking in public. The 5W1H formula makes it easy for anyone to speak or write. In the context of communication, the answer to the 5W1H question is the message conveyed in communication. The information is considered complete if it fulfills these six elements. The Kipling Method, 5W1H stands for the question words What, Who, Where, When, Why, and How.

If You are ready with the theme to be discussed, the speaker must prepare these 5W1H questions, with an example format:

What = What happened? What happened? What is the problem?

Who = Who is involved? Who did it? Who's the actor?

Where = Where did it happen? (Element of Place)

When = When did it happen? (Elements of Time)

Why = Why did it happen?

How = How did it happen? How's the mood? Chronology?.

The 5W1H concept aims to collect the necessary data as the essence of what we will convey to make it easier to speak and this method is also used as a technique to activate creative thinking, find and develop new ideas.

2.    Three Techniques for Overcoming Pre-Public Speaking Obstacles.

Apart from preparing what material You want to convey during public speaking, preparing mentally is also important in pre-public speaking. Here are 3 techniques to overcome the pre-Public Speaking barrier:

1) Make Yourself Happy.

First, to face the obstacles before public speaking is to make Yourself happy first. Because when You are happy, You will easily control feelings of discomfort and doubt when facing an audience. Apart from that, it will  make your audience happy as well,  because the audiences comfortbility impacted by your happy expression.

2) Smile.

Then, the second thing You can do, is smile. Smile sincerely and feel that You are calm. Don't frown, which will actually make You more angry. Smile and take deep breaths. Then the audience will be an interesting thing for You to deal with and You will provide the contents of Public Speaking.

3) Appear Attractive and Fun to Attract The Attention of The Audience.

If Our appearance is interesting, indirectly, the audience will be curious about who We are. Then, finish the fun from the start. That is why the first and second techniques explain how We have to start public speaking by making Ourselves happy and smiling first.

3.    Using the PREP Technique When Doing Public Speaking.

The last method of implementing public speaking is called PREP, what is PREP?

1)    The First is P-Point (Opinion)

Start talking about Your opinion, for example: "I think...." or "I believe...."

The function of starting by conveying that opinion is to show that You are assertive & confident.

2)    The Second is Exists R-Reason (reason)

After You have expressed Your opinion first, You need to support Your opinion with strong reasons. In this section You will try to provide reasons & facts about the opinion You gave at the beginning.

3) The Third is E-Explanation/Examples (explanations/examples)

The next step, You can provide an explanation of Your opinion & reasons, then You can strengthen it with examples from Your explanation.

4)Final P-Point (opinion)

Now finally, give Your opinion again at the end, for example: "therefore...." / "Therefore.....".

Those are some tips for becoming a good public speaker.
