Psychology of Love

The perk of teaching students majoring in Psychology is that I get to learn from its point of view about many things. A few months ago, this reading about the Psychology of Love was my students' mid test. It prompted me to write this letter

To Whomever I spend my life with,

I want to share something that's deeply important to me, something that shapes how I see love and how I hope we can grow together.

You mean so much to me, but I believe our love will be strongest when we both put God first. It's not about loving you any less---it's about loving you more, in the way God teaches us to love: selflessly, purely, and with a heart full of grace. When God is at the center of our lives, our love is protected and guided by something far greater than ourselves.

I hope you never feel jealous of the place God holds in my heart because it's from Him that I learn how to love you better. He purifies my thoughts and helps me see what truly matters. With God, our love is not just about us; it's about becoming the best versions of ourselves for each other.

I don't want my happiness to depend entirely on you, and I hope you feel the same. It's not fair to put that kind of weight on either of us. Instead, I want us to find our joy and peace in God first. When we do, we'll have something unshakable---a love that isn't swayed by life's ups and downs.

God's Spirit gives us the fruits of love, joy, and peace, and I want those to be the foundation of what we share. When we place our trust and emotions in Him, we'll have a love that grows stronger, even in the hardest times.

So, my love, let's walk this journey together, with God leading the way. Let's build something that lasts, something beautiful and eternal. With Him, I know our love can become everything it's meant to be.
