90’s Kids TV Show and Today: Which One is The Best?

When I was walking around in the park, there is some kids singing an adult song with love theme. I know this phenomenon is not new in this era. But, I’m still asking a question why this kids growing so fast. They know about love, relationship, and broken heart. Sometimes they are talking about their favorite star and gossipping their friends relationship. In the middle of night, I browsing some video in youtube. I was shocked when I’m watching an elementary students bullying one girl in their classroom. Why this bad things happen in elementary students?. I’ve studied psychology at university so I know there is some research tells that televisons have an influence on children’s behavior. What is different with 90’s kids television show than today?.

In 90’s, they’re only six television channel in Indonesia. But, in each channel, at least we find more than three hours television programme for kids. We also have good role model, such as Kak Seto, Kak Ria Enes, and Pak Raden. I believe 90’s kids must know about them. They are teaching the children, who watch the tv show, with story teller method. The best part is they use some dolls or puppet to play a role in a story. After the story finish, he/she asking a question to the children what is the conclusion about the story. I think this method is very useful. Because, the children can get the insight about the story without having to patronize.

90’s kids also get entertained with some kids singer. Do you remember some kids singer like Enno Lerian, Chiquita Meidy, and Joshua Suherman? Yes they are growing adult today. But, what I want to talk is their song. 90’s kids singer sing a song with kids theme like friendship, love to parents, playing games, or studying. Every songs has a good message and easy listening. This kids singer also provided by many channels because there must be kids music program in the morning and in the afternoon. Being kids in 90’s era is one of the best part of my life.

Compared to today’s tv program. Now we have more than 12 tv stations, but we only have less tv program for kids than 90’s. Do you know the best kids television program today’s?. The best television program is Laptop Si Unyil. This serial tv tells about the adventure of Unyil learning something new. I love this tv program. Because sometime Si Unyil travelling to fabric and we can learn how to produce something. But if I compare with Si Unyil in 90’s era, I’m still like the 90’s era than todays. It because I feel have moreinteraction when Pak Raden asking the conclusion of the story. Laptop si Unyil only tells, he never ask. However, I’m still apreciate they still wanna make good tv program.

Today, we also have music program for kids. They are Indonesian Idol Junior and AFI Junior. I’ve watching both of them. I see many kids sing an adult song. Sometimes they change the lyrics like “loving someone” to “loving their parents”. I don’t know is it good or bad. Because, what I’m still hear is the original lyrics. I also don’t see what is the purpose of both program. I just make personal conclusion that the singing competition for kids only one forms of employment of children. I see a lot of parents who force their children. They want their kids become famous and rich.

In short, I strongly hold that 90’s kids televison program more good than today because they more educative and also entertain us.

Moreover, changes in the concept of television programs for children happens because of rating system. Many television only foccus on how to get more viewer than the quality of the programs. The more viewer means the more they can get advertising. We also don’t have rule that mentioned with clearly that how many duration should each tv channel provide kids program. I wish every tv station and parents take responsibility to make a good television program for kids. Otherwise, we will see so many bad behavior that children do because they following what they see on tv.
