In addition to being governed by this law, Law Number 27 of 2022 Concerning Protection of Personal Data governs issues relating to privacy or personal data. According to Article 5 of the law, the owner or subject of personal data has the right to learn about the legitimacy of a request for personal data, its intended use, and who is responsible for making the request.

Even though violators of the rules governing personal data are subject to criminal penalties, including a potential prison sentence of 7 years and/or a maximum fine of IDR 700 million.
