[caption id="attachment_51495" align="aligncenter" width="300" caption="LSPR Journalism and Media Studies Graduate Students"][/caption] It is the first time for 22-year-old Andi Primaretha visiting a real newsroom in daily newspaper The Jakarta Post. He was not the only journalism student that had a great time experiencing a newsroom in one of the most prominence English newspaper in Indonesia. He and his 14 classmates is postgraduate student of Journalism and Media Studies at The London School of Public Relations – Jakarta. It was not just an ordinary company visit, but they also had a regular class with Senior Editor The Jakarta Post, Harry Bhaskara, as their favorite print journalism lecturer. “I feel so excited visiting a newsroom since I choose journalist as my career in the future,” Andi said. Dozens of The Jakarta Post journalists are reporting their news materials into the newsroom and ready to be printed every day. First launched on 25 April 1983, The Jakarta Post now has an average circulation of around 50,000 copies and become the largest English language newspaper in Indonesia. “The building is so great and has many facilities to support the journalists to enhance the report material to make good reportage/article” Andi added. The Jakarta Post office building is located near Palmerah traditional market at Jl. Palmerah Barat 142-143, Jakarta. As the information and communication technology changes many aspects in business landscape, media organization like The Jakarta Post adapts this situation by providing the online news to the readers with thejakartapost.com and can be easily accessed by mobile phone at m.thejakartapost.com. This means The Jakarta Post has prepared the changes by implementing the newsroom convergence. Not just for the journalists of The Jakarta post, but also to other journalists either in print or broadcast media that should prepare themselves to changes their mindset on how they work in multimedia environment today. If writing is like cooking and the journalist is like a chef, so newsroom is like a kitchen where the journalist work to serve the best writing just like the chef to serve the best food to the customers. Then, newsroom convergence is a way to package the writing material to more favorable form to the readers.
