Esai tentang Experiential Learning in the Modern Classroom

Experiential learning method is preferable to be implemented in this modern era, rather than conventional one which seems to be out dated. This essay will discuss several reasons why the prior is more effective.

To begin with, learning by doing is believed as an effective method in the learning process. Students can easily grasp the materials and save it in long-term memory because they experience it themselves. During the lesson, not only do they see the objects of learning but almost all their senses are also involved in the process. This approach, as scientific learning, would be suitable for dealing with science projects such as observing organisms or assessing new ingredients of a product. Moreover, teachers nowadays could benefit from the advancement of technology not only for providing various sources but also for making learning media to attract more students attention.

Another reason is that the decision to apply a new method found comes along with the development of curriculum. In Indonesia, for instance, more and more public schools have been improved the learning process, setting the focus of studying to enhance students' critical thinking and good characters. Additionally, the conventional method which is outdated out dated and more teacher- centered does not bring much advantage.  Some students get bored easily by listening to the teacher during the whole studying session. Consequently, they neglect the materials taught, sleeping or being busy with another activity, or even worse, none of the students gain new insights.

To sum up, the traditional teaching approach is less effective to be implemented. Nevertheless, experiential learning as a scientific method is considered as the best one nowadays.
