Food Safety Management System (FSMS) is a program in the food industry to prevent hazards to food safety that cause adverse health effects to consumers, by controlling all activities in the food production chain and ensuring that consumer food is safe and standardized.

Why is it important to have the knowledge and skills that support the FSMS?

FSMS is important for:

  • Compliance with regulations, standardization, and product distribution permits.
  • Ensuring food is safe to eat and does not cause illness (foodborne illness; health problems/illness caused by consumption of food that has been contaminated with pathogenic microbes/germs or harmful chemicals).
  • Maintain consumer trust.
  • Maintain company reputation.
  • Basic skills that must be owned by the Quality Control and Quality Assurance divisions.

What is the purpose of the FSMS?

Through the application of FSMS in the food industry, it is expected to achieve the goal of producing quality and safe food products for consumption on the responsibility of the food industry, and increasing the competitiveness of the food processing industry.

  • Supervising quality assurance and food safety work (such as CPPOB, SSOP and HACCP designs), and 
  • Managing activities of quality assurance and food safety.
