Intellect, smarts, athleticism, dexterity, facial appearances, confidence or psychical build derive from genetics more so and are overlapped by hard work and self-determination. But in the fictional world of D.I.C.E. there are shortcuts to these desired traits. The protagonist in the manhwa called Dongtae uses the powers contained within the dice to change his self to become a more desirable and attractive person over the summer break.

The difference between manhwa and manga is place of origin. The latter being the more popular is printed cartoons, or if animated called anime, derived from Japan. The term Manhwa refers to South Korean comics and between the 2 are contrasts in artwork and style. The Manhwa I discuss here is called DICE: The Cube That Changes Everything. In the beginning Dongtae is a student in high school and becomes the subject of bullying throughout the semester. He lacks self-confidence, social skills and nobody seems to care about him, thus becoming an easy target for such.

One day a transfer student arrives and takes a seat besides our main character. Tae Bin his name, is the exact opposite of Dong Tae with his athletics and good looks, and easily makes friends. Dongtae however, notices his occasional weird behavior after conversing with another. Out of jealousy he tails Taebin after school to the top floor of an apartment. Taebin appears as if he is waiting for someone or something. Mysteriously a blue glowing die appears behind Dongtae which exposes his cover. Taebin chases after him but after Dongtae mistakenly drops/rolled the dice Taebin cancels his pursuit. A mysterious man messages Dongtae when he gets home and apparently knows his whereabouts and asks him to turn on the living room light before further explanation.

The dice has the power to change everything. With it life becomes a type of game that has quests with rewards being dice. Dice allow you to change your physical properties, intelligence, agility, dexterity and the like. Dongtae comes to school and the other students start to notice his growth in height, muscle and now he’s less of a slob. As a side result the class bullies are intimidated and find someone else to pick on.

Spoilers aren’t fun but for sake of discussion I vaguely explain some parts to come. After an accumulation of events dice is no longer a secret within the school and Dongtae is at fault. Students become models overnight and greed has turned friends against each other. Gangs start to form and the people trade money and valuables for dice.

My question or enquiry to end this article is would the same situation happen in real life if dice was a real thing? That people would buy their way to have better physique, health and appearances. And if everyone looked good, then what would undesirable be and would attractive if everyone was?
