Cold Blooded Animals Hate the Cold

Do you ever start to wonder how penguins can withstand such cold weather in Antarctica? Polar bears have thick skin that protects them, but what about penguins? It turns out, that penguins are funny birds that can’t fly. And birds are warm blooded animals. But what does that mean? Well, we should get start discussing about warm blooded animals now.
I used to think when I was 5 that cold blooded animals were animals that lived in the cold or at least liked the cold. So I thought of myself as being a cold blooded creature, because I like standing in front of the AC to cool down.
But I turned out to be wrong in many ways. Not only was I wrong about being a cold blooded animal, I was also wrong about the habitat of those animals. It turns out that all humans are warm blooded. Warm blooded animals can live anywhere, hot or cold, while cold blooded animals hate the cold. Oh, the irony.

Lizards and scorpions are cold blooded animals, but what does that mean? Cold blooded animals consist in reptiles, amphibians and many types of fish. When the weather gets cold outside they also become cold. And when it’s hot there body also becomes hot.
Cold blooded animals aren’t as good in the cold as they are in the heat. This is the reason why many insects and reptiles, fish, amphibians live in the south jungles and hot places like Indonesia, instead of in snowy areas like America and Europe. Europe on the other hand has many bison’s and cows, which are warm blooded. And they live in Europe because they can.

Birds and mammals such as us humans are warm blooded. We are more complex living beings and we can make our own body heat. When it’s cold or hot outside, our cells try to maintain the same temperature. But that isn’t at all easy for our cells. They work hard day and night, trying to keep the temperature to about 37 degrees Celsius. If it’s off by a little, cells will start to die. And if many cells die, you die.
So to put it in conclusion humans are warm blooded, every human, even me. It’s important that our blood is warm. If you run an infrared scanner, you’ll see that warm blooded animals are colored in yellow, orange and red. These are the colors of the sun on a hot day, red happens when there is a beautiful sunset. But we aren’t as hot as the sun, not even by a fraction.

The hotter you are, the brighter you glow. The sun glows and shines in our eyes every morning, so you can imagine how hot it is. Humans on the other hand don’t glow At least, to the human eye. You can’t see your friend glow because he isn’t hot enough. So unfortunately you can’t use him as a night light.
But you can in fact make your friend glow. All you need is an infrared scanner. We aren’t as hot as the sun but we still have heat in our body. That is why we glow in an infrared scanner. You can’t make your friend glow permanently, but it’s still something.
