ACTION 2011 PART II

I am pleased to welcome you to the 8th ACTION (Asian Collaborating Training for Infectious Disease, Outbreak, Refugee and Natural Disaster) with a grand theme "The New Wave in Disaster Medicine for the Management of Earthquake. This event is one of a number of international programmes conducted by IFMSA in the Asia Pacific Region. This event is aimed to give a basic knowledge and information to the medical students regarding pre, during, and post treatment for victims of earthquake, and after this event, and the series of seminar that we will be attending, the participants of this event are expected to be able to use the knowledge that have been gained here in the real life and situation. As medical students, our duty in developing the management of earthquake and understanding what actions should be taken in terms of helping people in such severe condition like in disaster is growing by the time. In addition, we are expected to understand what skills that has to be mastered in order to help people in the management of disaster. These urgent matters will be cooped this year, summarized in the motto of the ACTION that is being held. The reason that leads us to address this topic is because medical students need to gain more understanding about the tasks that has to be taken in order to help in disaster and similar situations. In this opportunity, I'd like to convey my deepest gratitude to the committee and all that have been participating and working so hard to conduct this event. I do hope that this event will result medical students who are able to help the society if there is any disaster hitting a place, particularly earthquakes. I also hope that all participants will continue ACTION Project for development skill and knowledge in days to come.
