Since the end of October 2023, there has been a spike in Covid-19 cases in Indonesia due to the emergence of new Omicron subvariants, namely EG.2 and EG.5. This spike in cases has not only occurred in Indonesia, but also in neighboring countries such as Singapore, Malaysia, and the Philippines. Compared to the number of cases in the previous Omicron wave, this increase is much smaller. Out of 149 active cases last week, only 20% were EG.2 and EG.5 subvariants, the rest were dominated by the XBB 2 variant. However, from the total Covid-19 cases this year, the number of Covid-19 cases from October to November has increased. This has become a public concern because it occurs before the Christmas and New Year holiday season so that it can interfere their holiday activities. Therefore, the government also urges residents to be more careful and continue to make various efforts to prevent the wider spread of Covid-19.
