Thursday (29/09/22) KKN MBKM UM 2022 students conducted outreach to the community in Rejosari Village, Bantur Distric, Malang Regency about the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle to avoid hypertension, especially for people in the adult to elderly category who have a history of hypertension.
According to the Indonesian Ministry of Health, hypertension or high blood pressure is an increase in systolic blood pressure of more than 140 mmHg and diastolic blood pressure of more than 90 mmHg in two measurements with an interval of five minutes in a state of sufficient rest. Chairman of the Indonesian Association of Hypertension Doctors dr. Erwinanto, Sp. JP(K), FIHA said that someone who suffers from hypertension and is not controlled will be the main single contributor to heart disease, stroke and kidney failure. Hypertension can be prevented by controlling risky behaviors such as smoking, unhealthy diet (low consumption of vegetables and fruit, excessive consumption of salt), obesity, lack of physical activity, alcohol consumption, and stress.
Previously, KKN students had conducted a survey using the interview method with Mrs. Ira as the village nurse and Mrs. Wit as the village midwife. From the results of the survey, health problems were still high in Rejosari Village, namely hypertension, where the community still had low self-awareness for routine health checks. . So that KKN students raised "Hypertension" as the theme in the health socialization program.
One week before the program was carried out the KKN students also visited the houses of the heads of the Krajan, Njeding, Balewerti, and Kutukan hamlet cadres for further coordination and deposited staple food coupons aimed at inviting 5 residents from each hamlet.
The implementation of this program took place at the Rejosari Village Hall at 08.00 WIB, starting with a free health check which included blood pressure, weighing, and measuring height, followed by filling out a pre-test then education on preventing hypertension which was attended by 20 participants (community village) and 4 Heads of Posbindu Cadres for each hamlet in Rejosari Village.
Education on the Importance of Maintaining a Healthy Lifestyle to Prevent Hypertension was delivered by Nabiila Nurul Layyin Mahfiana, a 2020 Public Health  student at Malang State University using Power Point (PPT) media and using the lecture method which contains how to maintain a healthy lifestyle to prevent hypertension and the DASH diet for Hypertension patients .
The program ended with filling out the post-test and exchanging coupons to collect groceries, followed by handing over posters and photos with the head of the Rejosari Village cadres. With this program, it is hoped that the community can increase their awareness to maintain a healthy lifestyle and routinely check blood pressure.
