Martha Tilaar Group was pioneered by DR. (H.C.) Martha Tilaar in 1970 by opening a Martha beauty salon at the residence of her parents, Yakob Handana, on Jalan Kusuma Atmaja No.47 Menteng, Central Jakarta.
Martha Tilaar, a figure from Indonesia, has succeeded in making cosmetic products and herbal medicine products. Born in Kebumen in 1937, As time went by, little Martha grew into a healthy and tomboyish girl. He couldn't keep quiet. He behaves and dresses like a boy. Apart from that, Martha also learned many skills from her mother, such as selling small items, counting money, choosing and determining which eggs were fresh and which were rotten, and handicrafts.
As an adult, Martha is marrying Henry Alex Rudolf Tilaar, and then she followed her husband who received a scholarship to study in the United States. When she arrived there, she looked for additional income by becoming a babysitter.
Apart from working as a babysitter, Martha took advantage of this opportunity to attend beauty school at the Academy of Beauty Culture for two years. He managed to complete her education to bachelor's level. SHe taught at Santa Theresia Elementary School for two years and at his college alma mater for three years. Shhe started his career as a teacher before finally joining the world of beauty.
In 1970, Tilaar opened her beauty salon and then created Sariayu products, a well-known and popular cosmetic brand in Indonesia. Within 6 months, Martha was able to move to a bigger place. Two years later, Martha opened her second salon located in Cipete, South Jakarta.
Martha alao started making modern beauty and herbal products under the auspices of PT Martina Berto. This company was founded based on a collaboration between Martha and Theresia Harsini Setiady, founder of one of the leading pharmaceutical companies, Kalbe Group.
