Emotional intelligence (EI), also known as emotional quotient (EQ), refers to the ability to recognize, understand, manage, and influence your own emotions as well as the emotions of others. It is often divided into five key components:
1. **Self-awareness**: The ability to recognize and understand your own emotions and how they affect your thoughts and behavior.
 Â
2. **Self-regulation**: The ability to manage your emotions healthily and constructively, maintain control, and adapt to changing circumstances.
3. **Motivation**: Being driven to achieve for the sake of achievement, maintaining a positive attitude even in the face of adversity, and staying focused on long-term goals.
4. **Empathy**: The ability to understand and share the feelings of others, helping you to respond appropriately to social situations.
5. **Social skills**: The ability to manage relationships, communicate effectively, and work collaboratively with others, including handling conflicts and building strong bonds.
Emotional intelligence is crucial for personal and professional success, as it helps with communication, conflict resolution, and leadership. People with high EI are often better at managing stress, building relationships, and making decisions.
