In the late 1980s, our family---myself, my younger brother, father, and mother---was taken to the bus terminal in our town at the foot of Mount Lawu by one of my father's colleagues after the Asr prayer.
The plan was for the four of us to travel back to my father's hometown in Mojokerto and Malang by using an inter-province bus. Coincidentally, Pak Lik Joko, my father's younger brother who had been stationed in East Timor since he was a non-commissioned officer until his first officer rank, was returning home.
My father was eager to reconnect with his brother, not only because they were close in age---only two years apart---but also emotionally connected. Pak Lik Joko, who had always been close to my father since childhood, was also the one my father felt most in sync with.
Perhaps because it wasn't the weekend, I recall the bus terminal being quite deserted in the afternoon at that time. So, without having to compete with other passengers, we quickly secured seats, but unfortunately, I forgot the name of the bus fleet. According to my father, that particular bus was considered the king of the roads!
