Kuala Lumpur, August 13-14 2024 - To support the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum at the Indonesian School of Kuala Lumpur (SIKL), a community service team from the Department of Food and Clothing Education (PTBB) of Malang State University (UM), consisting of Lismi Animatul Chisbiyah, S.Pd., M.Pd., Ph.D., Laili Hidayati, S.Pd, M.Si, and Prof. Dr. Rina Rifqie Mariana M.P., successfully conducted a hands-on training to enhance the teacher's skills of Crafts and Entrepreneurship (PKWU).
This training aims to assist teachers in teaching food processing materials that can be developed into entrepreneurial activities, while simultaneously strengthening their competencies in addressing the limitations of existing facilities and teaching materials.
On the first day, the UM lecturer team was welcomed by Friny Napasti, S.Pd., M.Pd., the Headmaster of SIKL, who expressed her hope that this activity would be able to support the successful implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum at SIKL.
On the second day, the training was conducted at Selayang Community College, where participants consisting of STEM teachers, lecturers, and students from Selayang Community College, as well as the local community, were taught various techniques in processing fusion food. These techniques combined elements of Indonesian and Malaysian cuisine, creating innovative and sustainable business opportunities.
During the training, participants were introduced to practical materials that enable them to produce food products with economic value and market potential. Additionally, they were taught basic marketing aspects such as packaging, branding, and product pricing to support the understanding of applicable entrepreneurship in a school environment.
This activity marks the significance of the collaboration between SIKL and The State University of Malang (UM) in improving the quality of education for Indonesian children in Malaysia, especially the children of Indonesian migrant workers.
With this training, it is hoped that teachers will be able to implement new techniques in PKWU teaching that are more relevant to market needs and entrepreneurship-based, in line with the goals of the Merdeka Curriculum which emphasizes the holistic development of students.
The Headmaster of SIKL stated that this training has a positive impact on improving teachers' competencies, and hopes that similar activities can be continued in the future to enrich teaching in other subjects.
In addition, the UM team also handed over the guidebook "Fusion Food: Entrepreneurship Prospects through the Combination of Malaysian and Indonesian Cuisine" as an additional reference for teachers in developing more creative and innovative teaching materials.
This initiative reflects UM's ongoing commitment to significantly contribute to the advancement of Indonesian education overseas, with a particular focus on facilitating the attainment of SDGs 4 and SDGs 17.
