The Scholarship for the Indonesian Featured Students

For most of students in the 12th grade in Indonesia, being in the last year is probably the most stressful period ever. In this time they start busy thinking what university they will enroll after finishing the senior high school. “My last year in senior high school is the hardest one. I have to study hard for the National Exam as well as for the SNMPTN.I have been planning myself to take a test in enrolling University of Indonesia, and the tight competition drives me crazy,” Dinda Oktavia, a 12th grade student of a senior high school in Bogor said.

However, that’s not the only problem faced by the students in the 12th grade. The most common problem is that there are some brilliant students who are struggling because they can’t continue their education for their family cannot afford it. It’s like Putri Ayu’s case, a bright senior high school student in Bogor. “I really want to continue my study in university as like my classmates plan to, but my parents have told me that they are afraid that they cannot make it,” Putri Ayu said.

No wonder there are many students like Julia outside as the university tuition is very expensive. In order to solve this problem, Indonesian educational ministry ( Kemendiknas ) together with STBA LIA as the appointed educationalinstitution have a scholarship program called Featured Scholarship Program ( Program Beasiswa Unggulan ). Quoted from the STBA LIA Jakarta’s booklet, Featured Scholarship Program is a scholarship addressed for “featured” student whether academically or non-academically.

The Indonesian government through this scholarship want to support the every Indonesian student who have the superioracademic or non academic achievement by giving them a four years free school payment at some institutions appointed by the Indonesian educational ministry, and as result those students are expected to help the acceleration of regional development, the enhancement of technological innovation, the revenues of local budgets, the local quality improvement, and the local competitiveness through the development of local superior products.

STBA LIA Jakarta together with the Indonesian educational ministry open for the PBU selection every year, and the selection is opened for any Indonesian featured students who are interested and eager in learning foreign languages (English or Japanese). The students who are willing to apply the scholarship must follow some requirements that are required by the STBA LIA Jakarta and Indonesian Educational ministry.

The requirements for applying the Featured Scholarship Program at STBA LIA Jakarta are the students who want to apply must be maximum 21 years old when applying, filling the Featured scholarship Program form at STBA LIA Jakarata’s website as well as at Indonesian Educational Ministry’s website or directly come to STBA LIA’s campus to get the form, hand the pas photos and the senior/vocational high school diploma and transcript. This year the selection will be opened from April to August. In addition, the main requirement of the selection is that every student who wants to apply has to have the achievement, as it is proved with certificate.As the students finish completing the requirement and hand it to STBA LIA Jakarta, the STBA LIA Jakarta will select the students who meet their requirement, and after that, they will send the selected names to the Indonesian Education Ministry. After sent to the Indonesian educational Ministry, approximately in two months until four months, the Indonesian Educational Ministry will send the names that meet their criterion to STBA LIA. For every student who wants to apply this scholarship, please note that STBA LIA will accept your documents in August at the latest.

By providing this scholarship, Indonesian government through Indonesian Educational Ministry wants to minimize the brilliant, talented, superior students who cannot get high education, and by receiving this scholarship means you are chosen and featured students.
