Delia Owens is the co-author of three internationally bestselling nonfiction books about her life as a wildlife scientist in Africa. She holds a BS in Zoology from the University of Georgia and a PhD in Animal Behaviour from the University of California at Davis. She has won the John Burroughs Award for Nature Writing and has been published in Nature, The African Journal of Ecology and International Wildlife, among many others. She lives in the mountains of North Carolina. Where the Crawdads Sing is her first novel.
This novel is a combination of a future story, a murder mystery, and an ode to nature. Told alternately in the past and present, back to the time when Chase Andrews was found dead and the previous time when he was involved with Kya, the swamp girl. Kya's childhood years are depicted in the narrative of the past while the mystery of Chase's death involving Kya is told in the narrative of the present. It tells the story of a police investigation and the dramatic court scenes that comprise the suspense part of the novel. In this novel also tells about how Kya survives in the swamp, Kya is a lonely girl.
