The residents and atmosphere in this village have changed 180 degrees, creating a healthy environment that is full of togetherness. How did they do it? Check out their inspiring story here.
Hija Village is located in Sawangan District, Depok City, West Java. This village has a long and complicated story. Based on an interview that our team conducted with Mr. Asep, the founder of Kampung Hija, the name "Kampung Hija" came from the word “Hajja”, which means intentional. In the past, this village was a BNN zone or red zone village, “based on the basis request from the head of the village, this village was changed to alleviate the red zone or a BNN zone, due to the use of drugs” said Mr. Asep.
On October 26, 2022, with the agreement of the leader and youth of Kampung Hija, Kampung Hija officially became an institution by inauguration by the Ministry of Humanities. The purpose of this HCI development is to overcome the illiteracy of Quran reading and deal with the culture of the residents there to change for the better.
Many routines are carried out, such as JUMSI (Jum’at Bersih or Friday Clean), MINGSI (Minggu Bersih or Sunday Clean), BJSK (Budaya Jaga Siaga Kampung or Culture Jaga Siaga Village), SJBS (Shalat Jumat Berjamaah or Friday Prayers in Congregation) and Qur'an reading. Through these routines, this village is now fill with very positive energy. These activities, make Hija village a place to live that everybody dreams of.
Retrieved this significant transformation, Kampung Hija has gained positive attention from several educational institutions. Based on an interview with Alfani Alfian Nazami, a student at Kampung Hija, many universities have visited Kampung Hija to conduct constructive activities. Universities that have participated include Sahid University and Pamulang University, and the latest is the visit of Prof. Dr. Hamka Muhammadiyah University, known as UHAMKA.
The activity held by UHAMKA students in Kampung Hija is an activity with the theme of public speaking training. This activity itself was carried out for five meetings, conducted on June 1, June 8, June 22, June 29, and July 6, 2024. On June 1, 8, 22, and 29, the activities carried out by UHAMKA students were mentoring and public speaking training for the HCI students. Then, on July 6, the activity carried out was the peak event.
The peak of this event certainly went with great fanfare. It took place in two places, which are the education room and the Quran house of Kampung Hija. This event was also enlivened by performances given by the students. The performances were poetry reading, Quran reading, and drama performances. These performances given by the students is a result of mentoring and public speaking training provided by UHAMKA students.
According to Mrs. Heni, the student lecturer, the activities carried out by UHAMKA students have given positive results. This can be seen through the students' performance who became more confident after this public speaking training.
These positive results, indicated that the UHAMKA students have succeeded in running the event well. They have successfully provided benefits by spreading the knowledge they have. Then, Mrs. Heni hopes that this event can become a routine event so that more benefits are spread to those who need it.
