The capital of Indonesia was initially and is currently Jakarta, but the capital has moved several times in the early years after independence. The capital was once moved to Yogyakarta, Bireuen, and Bukittinggi. In 2024, the capital of Indonesia will be moved to Kalimantan, specifically in Nusantara. The decision to move the capital has sparked both support and opposition, with people questioning the urgency of moving the capital from Jakarta to Nusantara. There are reasons behind the decision to relocate the capital to Nusantara. Firstly, it is aimed at achieving economic equality and development across all regions of Indonesia.

As known, Java, particularly Jakarta, has become the current economic center of Indonesia, and massive infrastructure development has been concentrated in Java, leaving other regions behind. This move aims to shift the perspective from Java-centric to Indonesia-centric. Secondly, there is a possibility that Jakarta may face submergence. This could happen due to the decreasing land elevation caused by excessive groundwater usage, leading to land subsidence.

Additionally, rising sea levels due to climate change and global warming are contributing factors. The third reason is that, as a symbol of the nation's identity and the center of Indonesia's development, the country has ambitious dreams of becoming an advanced nation by 2045. Therefore, the new capital, the Indonesia Nusantara Capital (IKN), is considered essential as a unifying symbol to realize Indonesia's golden future in 2045. In summary, the Nusantara IKN is being built due to the urgency of achieving economic equality, anticipating the potential submergence of Jakarta, and serving as a symbol of national identity to realize Indonesia's advancement by 2045.
