a truth that's held from yesterday
when leaders rise to take the reins
their character often undergoes strains
the allure of authority, so strong
can twist even the most virtuous throng
promises made, ideals professed
can fade away, put to the test
with power, some lose their sense of grace
their empathy, and their humble face
they trade their principles for gain
and leave behind what once was plain
but not all are consumed by might
some use it to bring about what's right
to lift the voiceless and oppressed
to build a world that's truly blessed
it's not power itself that's the bane
but the choices made, the moral stain
for in the hands of those who care
it can be a force for good to bear
so let us remember this simple creed
in the face of power's tempting need
to strive for justice, compassion, and worth
for in these ideals, true power takes birth
