Al-Ghazali's Theory: Politics and Religion

          Many have mentioned that politics and religion are inseparable, but there are also those who say that politics and religion are two things that must be separated in other words cannot be equated. Then, what about the views of previous scholars regarding to this study case?

          Abu Hamid Muhammad al-Ghazali as known as Al-Ghazali, is one of the important figures in Islamic history in the 11th century C.E. He is known as the "Father of Sufism". He is known as the "Father of Modern Sufism" because of his intelligence in developing and reformulating the thought of Sufism (Islamic mysticism) in his time.

          According to Imam Al-Ghazali, the context of politics and religion are two things that cannot be separated. This is because politics is a system that is obliged to regulate world order, religion, and success in the hereafter. He also mentioned that with politics, humans can have the authority to regulate, maintain, and carry out the role of all humans for good.

          Not only in the context of politics and religion, he also mentioned that politics and leadership are the same as politics and religion, where these two things are closely related and cannot be separated. Religion as the basis and the priest as the guardian. This statement is because, according to him, religion will not be able to run well without a leader who regulates regardless of the nature of each individual.

          Thus, Al-Ghazali's view of the relationship between politics and religion. In addition, he emphasized that separating politics and religion is ineffective, so we must fight for the good values of religion.
