A young H.G. Wells was one of the boys' teachers at the private school run by Milne's father. Milne continued on to study at Trinity College, Cambridge, where he received a mathematics scholarship, and Westminster School, London. He edited and wrote for Granta magazine while attending Cambridge (which was once known as The Granta, after Cambridge's other river). In 1903, he graduated with a degree in mathematics and relocated to London to pursue a career as a freelance writer.Â
