6th Coy Conference of FKUB Indonesia and Awarding Tomohon City as A City of Tolerance

Manado-Indonesia is a country known for its various ethnic, cultural, language, and religious differences. The presence of the Forum Kerukunan Umat Beragama (FKUB) is certainly one of the proofs where the Indonesian people strongly support tolerance and harmony between religious people in fellow Indonesians.

The activities of the International Harmony Week and the 6th Conference of FKUB Indonesia in 2021 were opened by the Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, Ma'ruf Amin. The event was held at Sutan Raja Hotel, North Minahasa, North Sulawesi Province, Friday (November 19, 2021).

"This activity is expected to further strengthen tolerance and harmony among religious people in Indonesia and at the same time provide inspiration for religious harmony in the world," said the Vice President.

Furthermore, the vice president also said that we must always be peace and harmony between religious people because it will not come alone.

"Religious harmony does not come by itself, but we must always take care and maintain it," he said.

Therefore, on that occasion the Vice President also told the religious assemblies with the government that formed the FKUB whose main task was to make various efforts in maintaining harmony between religious people both in the form of dialogue and mediation to prevent conflict or resolve disputes.

"I give appreciation for the role and contribution of FKUB as a medium that is very effective in building harmony and at the same time resolving disputes or conflicts of religious background," he said.

In addition, the Vice President also reminded not to be affected by hoaxes whose nature is negative issues especially in the midst of the sophistication of information technology that is currently moving very fast so that it will very quickly also lead opinions and various views from the people of Indonesia. This is believed to make Indonesian society more divided and of course it becomes a challenge for FKUB to maintain tolerance among religious people in Indonesia.

"Among the information there are positive, but some are negative including issues that can cause conflict between religious communities, among others through conspiratorial narratives and hoaxes," he said.

"In addition, the negative side of digital-based information technology has an ability called algorithmic curation, which leads everyone or group of people to believe only in information supplied from his group as truth, while other groups are guided by truths that are believed by their own groups," he explained.

"This is one of the challenges that must be answered by the FKUB so that religious harmony is maintained and maintained," he stressed.

In the event that raised the theme "Torang Samua Ciptaan Tuhan" (We are the Creation of God), the Vice President again reminded the importance of tolerance and putting forward common interests. He also again reminded why this agreement could happen is because the previous founders who always prioritized the common interests with a sense of tolerance and unselfishness.

"The founding fathers have succeeded in formulating Pancasila as the basis of the state which is a national agreement," said the Vice President.

"These positive attitudes must be taken care of, we take care, we maintain the integrity of the nation and state of the Republic of Indonesia that we must inherit to the generation after us, especially millennials, generation Z, and the younger generation," he concluded.

The Vice President of Indonesia who is also the former Chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) revealed that the people of North Sulawesi were able to care for the integrity of the nation by continuing in the footsteps of the nation's founders to cultivate the values of tolerance. So he expressed appreciation and appreciation to the people of North Sulawesi who have played a role in creating harmony between citizens regardless of religious, tribal, and cultural background.

"I am proud of the people of North Sulawesi who have been known to be tolerant," he said.

This activity is also a very valuable activity for the Government and the people of Tomohon City because on that occasion The City of Tomohon was given the honor to receive the award as the "City of Tolerance" in Indonesia.

Mayor of Tomohon Caroll Senduk, SE appreciates every religious figure and all communities who have synergized with the city government so that it can get recognition and appreciation as a City of Tolerance in Indonesia. Caroll Senduk also hopes that the harmony that has been created so far will be maintained and can be preserved.

"Thank you to the central government and vice president who have proclaimed the city of Tomohon as a city of tolerance," said Mayor Tomohon who was also accompanied by Deputy Mayor Wenny Lumentut.

At the end of the event, the Vice President hit Tetengkoren as a sign of the Inauguration of the Opening of the International Harmony Week and the 6th FKUB Conference in Indonesia in 2021 and also on the occasion of the signing of an inscription establishing Tomohon City as the City of Tolerance in Indonesia.

In the event, he also accompanied the Vice President, namely Minister of Manpower Ida Fauziyah and Minister of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises Teten Masduki. Also present were North Sulawesi Governor Olly Dondokambey, Tomohon Mayor Caroll Jolam Azarias Senduk along with Deputy Mayor, Regent of North Minahasa Joune J.E. Ganda, Chairman of the Indonesian FKUB Association Ida Pangelingsir Agung Putra Sukahet, Chairmen of Religious Assemblies, Chairmen and Administrators of FKUB in Indonesia, as well as religious leaders, community leaders, and indigenous figures of North Sulawesi.
