Jakarta, July 27, 2023 - The Final Semester Exams (UAS) are eagerly awaited moments for students of Muhammadiyah University Prof. Dr. Hamka (UHAMKA). However, behind the preparations and enthusiasm of the students in facing these exams, various psychological and emotional aspects need to be considered. Through interviews with two sources, Zahra Tunnisa, and Sahlah Haris, we will examine the mental preparedness of UHAMKA students in facing the Final Semester Exams.
Based on the interview results with Zahra Tunnisa, an eighth-semester student who is also taking additional courses and working on her thesis, the mental and emotional conditions of students at UHAMKA before the UAS vary greatly. Many students from the second to the sixth semester feel an increasing burden of tasks, leading to feelings of fatigue and a lack of emotional control. Zahra herself admitted to experiencing stress due to the simultaneous pressure of exam assignments and the thesis. However, she emphasized the importance of creating a good timeline to manage pressure and mental conditions.
Regarding the main challenges faced by students in meeting the final exams, Zahra revealed that the difficulty of accessing the exam card without settling all outstanding bills is one of the problems encountered. This becomes a significant obstacle for some students in facing their final exams.
From the interview with Sahlah Haris, a UHAMKA student, it is evident that the mental and emotional conditions of students are characterized by nervousness and fear in facing the Final Semester Exams, especially due to the numerous challenging projects and assignments. One of the challenges faced is the research aspect, which is considered difficult and intimidating.
However, Sahlah also provides insights into how students prepare mentally to handle the pressure and challenges of the Final Semester Exams. According to her, mental preparation is achieved through diligent studying and thorough preparation, so that when the time comes to take the exams, students will feel more confident.
Based on the experiences of several students who have faced Final Semester Exams before, Sahlah advises students not to be negligent and to prepare themselves adequately. One important lesson to be learned is the significance of preparing before bedtime by organizing the necessary items for the exam day, such as stationery and the exam card.
Maintaining a balance between studying and safeguarding mental health is also an essential aspect for students. Sahlah explains that she always ensures her mental well-being is taken care of before starting to study. This way, she can avoid feelings of boredom and maintain her learning spirit. Engaging in activities like using a cellphone and watching TikTok serves as a way for Sahlah to relax her mind briefly before refocusing on her studies.
As tips and strategies for other students who want to face the Final Semester Exams with more confidence and effectiveness, Sahlah suggests studying diligently and understanding the campus and course-specific regulations set by the professors. Thorough preparation and understanding of the exam tasks will help students feel more prepared and confident in facing their Final Semester Exams.
With the various insights from UHAMKA students, it is apparent that mental preparedness is a crucial aspect that needs to be well-planned when facing the UAS. Besides studying diligently, managing pressure and emotions, as well as maintaining mental well-being, are critical factors for students to achieve good results in their final exams. Hopefully, the tips and perspectives provided by the interviewees above can inspire other students to face the UAS with confidence and effectiveness.
